How IIMs Support Entrepreneurship in India

The surge in people wanting to start their own businesses in India is a newer trend that really picked up around the early 2000s. This change happened mainly because the Indian economy got bigger and better, making it a good time for folks to try out their own business ideas.  It is important to analyze how much the IIMs have helped shape this trend in India. They've created opportunities where new business ideas can grow. These places use the money available for startups, encourage new ideas, and get talented people to work together, which helps new businesses in India get better and better.  Let's take a closer look at all the cool chances that people who want to start businesses can find at the IIMs:

IIM AHMEDABAD 

IIM Ahmedabad's innovation hub, known as the Centre of Excellence, called Capital Incubation Insights Everything (CIIE), has diversified its offerings to encompass various aspects of entrepreneurship. This includes research and publishing in the entrepreneurial domain, business acceleration, venture funding, learning resources, innovation partnerships, and more. CIIE extends its support to visionary entrepreneurs who are developing groundbreaking solutions. It serves as a reliable partner for startups during their vulnerable early stages when they require substantial support but have limited options. Through a continuum of incubation, acceleration, financing, and valuable insights, CIIE equips these determined entrepreneurs with everything they need to make a significant impact.

IIM BANGALORE 

IIM Bangalore's entrepreneurial center, known as NSRCEL, has a strong focus on specific sectors such as social enterprises, women's entrepreneurship, student-led ventures, and emerging businesses. NSRCEL offers a dynamic platform that equips business owners with the necessary tools to collaborate and contribute to India's future development.  Over time, NSRCEL has developed comprehensive programs that cater to various aspects of the business ecosystem, ensuring holistic support to entrepreneurs. NSRCEL is also supported by Niti Aayog, Department of Science and Technology and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Govt. Of India.

IIM CALCUTTA 

IIM Calcutta's Innovation Park (IIMCIP) was established with the aim of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. Its primary objective is to create an environment that nurtures new businesses with creative ideas and solutions, empowering them to thrive. Through collaborations between industry and academia, IIMCIP also promotes innovation in both business and research domains.

Key Features:

- Facilities: Dedicated Mentorship, Funding Connect, Plug and Play workspace, Support Services - IIMC Student Support: The park provides support to IIMC students in their entrepreneurial endeavors. - Charges for Lab Usage: Incubatees can avail of college facilities free of charge, while consideration of up to 5% equity is taken for the incubation support. 

- Funding Programs: There are various seed funding programs that provide financial support, such as the NIDHI Seed Support (SS) Program, DST-NSTEDB Seed Support Program, Invent Program, and corporate CSR funds.


IIM LUCKNOW 

IIM Lucknow, located in Noida, has established the IIM Lucknow Enterprise Incubation Centre as part of its campus. The incubation center focuses on enabling new ventures to achieve rapid growth and successful commercialization of their products. It offers a comprehensive range of support including an accelerator program, seed capital, corporate venture capital fund, smart co-working space, corporate market access, mentoring, and training programs. The aim of the center is to reduce the failure rate of startups by providing assistance in business incubation and acceleration.

IIM KOZHIKODE

LIVE (Laboratory for Innovation, Venturing and Entrepreneurship) , the entrepreneurship development center and business incubator at IIM Kozhikode, was established in June 2016 with the support of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Its primary objective is to become a nationally recognized center of excellence that fosters innovation, new business ventures, and entrepreneurship. The center aims to create a collaborative platform that facilitates the transformation of innovative ideas into impactful business ventures, both economically and socially. Being an on-campus incubator, LIVE benefits greatly from the expertise and resources available at IIM Kozhikode, including faculty members, students, research and knowledge base, alumni, and institutional networks.

IIM INDORE

The inauguration of Cliqué, the innovation and incubation center for entrepreneurs, took place on February 23, 2017, under the supervision of IIM Indore. The center’s main objective is to support and foster aspiring entrepreneurs while building a strong entrepreneurship ecosystem, which is a fundamental part of the Institute's mission. This facility provides various amenities essential for modern startups, including wireless internet access, a temporary space for generating ideas, meeting areas, and a recreational corner, among others.

Key Features:

- Established in 2017 - Facilities: Space for generating ideas and meetings, recreational facilities. The IIMs have become important drivers of entrepreneurship in India. They use the growing Indian economy, available venture capital, and a culture of innovation to support and develop new and innovative solutions. Through collaboration, mentoring, funding, and a supportive environment, the IIMs are helping entrepreneurs turn their ideas into successful businesses.
