The rains in Chennai have caused severe devastation in the city causing the loss of more than 250 lives and a property damage of nearly Rs.15000 crores. In order to help the flood-affected people, IIM Trichy collected relief materials led by efforts of the Elixir Club, the Social Responsibility Club of the institute, in three phases from the students, alumni, faculty and staff of the institute. During the first phase, on December 4, supplies like biscuits, water bottles, clothes, ready-to-eat items etc. were collected and sent to Cuddalore through ShineTREEchy, an NGO working to help the flood victims.

In the second phase, on December 6, in addition to donation of supplies, monetary contributions were collected from faculty and alumni. A donation of Rs.28000 was received which was used for the procurement of blankets, sanitary napkins, water bottles, rice, daal, atta packets and other essential items. These items were handed over to Mr Shravan, Assistant Collector of Tiruchirappalli district and sent to the flood-affected areas through district collector’s office. In the third phase, donations of close to Rs.24000 was collected from students and alumni. In the initial two phases, efforts were focused on procurement of relief material such as food and other goods which related to immediate need. In the third phase we’ve efforts were concentrated on providing rehabilitation items such as mosquito repellents, soaps, mats, tooth brush, tooth paste. This was done primarily due to the increase in propagation of diseases due to water stagnation. Additionally, essential items such as anti-fungal powder, Dettol bottles and other medicines were also sent. In conjunction with several college students from NIT, Sastra, Saranadan etc a group was formed and the collected items were sent to the flood affected areas in Chennai.
