IIM-Udaipur yet again created its mark globally in the Operations & Supply Chain field. IIM-U got selected as 1 of the 5 top teams from across the globe for the finals of the prestigious Global Operations Conference 2013 at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. Of all the participating teams from US and abroad only 5 teams were invited for the final presentation on the live industry challenge in Operations. As per the organizing committee, teams from several top business schools worldwide submitted responses and the competition was extremely fierce. The finalists were: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), 2 teams from University of Michigan, Pennsylvania State University and IIM-U. The team members representing IIM-Udaipur were Arpit Mehra, Biswarup Das, Rahul Pandey, Rahul Dsouza.   This event organized by the Tauber Institute for Global Operations is considered as 1 of the biggest International conferences worldwide in Operations & SCM and is sponsored by companies such as Dell, CISCO, Infosys, 3M, Eaton, Microsoft, ALCOA, Steelcase, Conway, BorgWarner. http://www.bus.umich.edu/conferences/2013-GOC/ViewConference.aspx   The case given to the teams considered aspects of Operational Analytics, Quality Management tools and other tools such as Inventory models, factory physics, Little’s Law, Six sigma, FMEA and Ishikawa methods.  

The theme for this year’s conference was “Navigating the New Normal”. The keynote speakers of the event were Maria de Lourdes Dieck-Assad and Michael Finney.

Maria has been the Dean at EGADE Business School at Tecnológico de Monterrey since January 2011. Prior to assuming her current role Dr. Dieck-Assad was Director General, Dean of the School of Government, Social Sciences and Humanities (2007-2009) as well as Dean of the Economics and Law School Division (2008-2009). Michael A. Finney is President and CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), a public-private partnership serving as the state's lead agency for business and job growth, talent enhancement, tourism marketing, arts and cultural grants, and overall economic growth.   This year’s conference panels covered five areas that each addressed a different aspect of business and operational excellence:   About the author: Biswarup Das is part of the Dual Degree Program between IIM-Udaipur and Krannert School of Management at Purdue University. As part of this program, he is concentrating in Operations, Supply Chain and Analytics. He did his summers with Cummins, India where he was part of the Supply Chain Functional Excellence team. He is also part of the 3 member Corporate Relations and Placements team at IIM-Udaipur. Prior to joining this program, Biswarup Das worked for around 5 years in Strategic Consulting and Project Management.
