You know the feeling when you get to a city that is a tourist city, where every shop, every store sells the same handicrafts stuff to attract the tourist. The colourful façades, the over-hanging paraphernalia, overstocked with souvenirs shouting at the top of their lungs to woo the customers over and haggling over the prices, and a calm settles over you because that is when it hits you that yes the vacation has finally started. No matter how dinghy and narrow the streets are, no matter how navigation seems to require the skills of Magellan to cross the intricate networks of the city, it always seems to settle as a detached calm over you. And here welcomes the Institute of your dreams.
And this is what happened to me when I first came to IIM Udaipur crossing the city of lakes. Not that it is just a tourist city, but considering that it is a significant part of the town, it does give off such a vibe. The peace, calm and serenity that the college pulls over you and makes it feel like some erudite old man telling you tales about IIM Udaipur.
The college rests in amazingly lush green Aravallis (though only in monsoons) and the over the top use of red colour. It feels as if the college is situated just a shout away from the sunrise point.
Additionally, a joyful rush through cycling on the back road of the hostels with the mountains beside you gives you a few moments out of the busy scheduled culture of an MBA. Evenings are spent at the edge of our peripheral vision of the scenic mountains. Everything in the campus gives a different feeling and makes you realize how lucky one is to be here.
