If 20th century is said to be a century of electronics revolution, then 21st century is going to have IT and knowledge revolution. In present globalized world, countries and businesses are getting linked and the processes are getting more complex and opportunities are being widened. So its today’s need that we focus more on learning and understanding the nitty-gritty of business practices, so as to contribute more towards its growth and development, which ultimately will result in country’s development. And hence a sense of satisfaction and achievement for us.
I have worked as a Manager in Tata Steel and am well versed with the management practices at lower level. But there was always a sense of curiosity to know more about the technicalities of how business operates at top level, how product choice is made, how it is marketed, how financial decisions are taken, how investments are made. There was also a desire of completing higher education from one of best colleges in India. Because ten to fifteen years down the line, strong knowledge and understanding of business will be very helpful in career growth and our capability to contribute, which not only impacts the company but also the society. When all these learning has to be made, it has to be from best professors and among best peer groups.
IIM Visakhapatnam provides me the opportunity for this. In a new IIM, the batch size of 100 is neither too large nor too low, thus it will provide wide peer to peer learning opportunity. IIM V is under the mentorship of IIMB – a top IIM in India. The mentorship from one of best professors in the country will be available. The learning from the best professors will be enriching and will do high value addition to us. The case study based approach will give better insights into business practices and decision making. Moreover, since the college is new, we will have an opportunity to shape the culture and practices of the college and become face of the college. There will be ample scope to implement our ideas and opinions. The academic rigour will become our new way of life. And the opportunity of peer learning from best minds of the country is really exciting.
Vizag is a beautiful city, an industrial hub, a tourist hub and an opportunity hub. I hope that the IIM in city of destiny is going to shape our destiny.
Which ABG Company would you want to work for and why?
I have worked in Tata Steel as Manager involved in techno-managerial work and have knowledge about operations and processes in an Industry. I have an inclination towards learning new things and understanding the working of companies from different dimensions mainly finance. I am interested in learning finance and would like to work in Financial Services of ABG or in finance department of any ABG group company.
