The legacy of the Aditya Birla Group has been in existence even during the Independence phase of India, with the Birla family being supporters of the movement started by Mahatma Gandhi. Ghanshyamdas Birla not only provided financial support to Gandhi but he also played an instrumental role in participating in talks with the British that ultimately led to India’s independence. Post-Independence, it emerged as a leading diversified conglomerate in the country, with the Birla Group foraying into synthetics, cement, petroleum, IT, apparel, living up to its highly diversified nature. It also expanded into international waters by covering markets of North America, Canada, Thailand, Philippines, Egypt, Australia, Malaysia, China amidst various other countries ranging across continents. Today, the Aditya Birla Group finds its presence in the day- to- day lives of almost all Indians. On a personal level, ABG resonates the most with me with its presence in the apparel sector. It was during my business studies classes in grade 12th during school that I was first informed about the rich legacy of ABG. Little did I know that most of my favorite brands in the apparel sector belonged to the Aditya Birla Group. Be it Allen Solly or Van Heusen, both the brands have fulfilled all my clothing needs. Now that I am a student of a full- time MBA programme at the Faculty of Management Studies, I cannot help but stress upon the constant need to be dressed in formal wear on an almost daily basis. Again, the Aditya Birla Group comes to my rescue. With its wide range of variety as well as easy availability both online and offline, all my needs are catered to with ease. Therefore, it would not be an overstatement to say that ABG forms an indispensable part of my life. I have always been a diligent individual right since my childhood, and this has reflected upon my academic performances as well. I have always been consistent in my studies, and at the same time been an active participant of extracurricular activities as well. Therefore, academics have never really posed a challenge for me. For my undergraduate studies, I got the opportunity to pursue my Bachelor’s in Economics (Honours) at the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. It was here wherein I realized how despite being an all-rounder, and being a consistent performer, challenges can arise. In spite of having prior knowledge of Economics, the initial few months of college were extremely challenging for me as the pedagogical methods completely changed as compared to how they were in school. Therefore, I put in extra efforts to work upon my shortcomings and weak areas. Towards the end of this exercise, I realized my potential even more and started believing in my own abilities to better myself. Even for my preparation to get through FMS, I faced a lot of challenges in terms of complacency and self- doubt, but my mantra to deal with such problems remained the same- it should always be our own constant endeavor to better ourselves and shine.
