33rd Edition of InSight Special Lecture on "Context-Aware Research Adventures" by Dr. Raghav V Sampangi, Instructor, Faculty of Computer Science; Faculty Associate, Center for Learning and Teaching, Dalhousie University, Canada on 29 December 2016 at MYRA School of Business. Talk Summary: Context. A word that is hard to define if we don’t know the “context” to which we are referring. Systems and interactions with such systems are more meaningful, useful, usable and efficient if the context is considered as a core element in the system design. So does life in general. In this talk, Raghav will discuss the importance of context in modern day computing, especially in the Internet of Things. The talk will also cover the use of contextual information in various application domains such as mobile device security, user authentication, personal safety, remote healthcare, and visualisation in coordinated and multiple view environments. Raghav will also share his lessons in the iterative evolution of research projects. About the Speaker: Dr Raghav V. Sampangi is an Instructor at the Faculty of Computer Science, and a Faculty Associate at the Centre for Learning and Teaching, at Dalhousie University, Canada. His research interests include investigating issues with security, usability and interactions for context-aware devices in the Internet of Things (IoT), and designing mechanisms to overcome them. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada, where he worked on a context-dependent adaptive mechanism for security; particularly, key generation and authentication. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree (B.E) in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, India, and a Master’s degree (M.Tech) in Information Systems and Management from the University of Mysore, Mysore, India. He is a proponent of lifelong learning and considers every interaction the source of a life lesson. For more details: https://goo.gl/Ie13A1
