Insights of a budding Mandevian “The woods are lovely, dark and deep, but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep” The abovementioned lines are some of the most symbolic lines of poetry to exist on this planet but they happen to be quite literal for a first year student at MDI, Gurgaon. The first thing I felt on stepping into this campus was the palpable temperature drop, courtesy the lush green campus, complemented perfectly against the red-brick buildings. Nights here are a treat to the senses if you like long walks in the moonlit campus beneath the dark foliage of trees. However, with innumerable case studies and pre-readings demanding your time, you cannot afford to set out on a stroll (that is what I tell to convince myself, mostly unsuccessfully). These walks culminate in having a cup of tea and some piping hot food at Sharma’s, the canteen tending to the hunger pangs of people on the campus 24x7. But if there is one thing warmer than the weather out here, it is the people. A month out here feels like ages and friends like family. From waking each other up, running from one class to another (literally so), brainstorming ideas and cleaning up overflowing coolers in the dead of night, it has been a surprisingly amazing experience. The people below deserve special mention for merely existing and keeping me sane with their insanity. Tanvi Goel; The phrase “Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka” was worded by someone who met her. She makes friends as naturally as trees convert carbon dioxide to oxygen and is incredibly passionate about marketing. With some people you just know they are a keeper and she belongs to that special breed. Shreya Singhania; we share the same first name, hometown and tendency to laugh at the wrong times (mostly initiated by her). With a penchant for finance and sketching, she has the keen intelligence and urge for knowledge to aid her in her dreams. I can always count on her to listen to my lame jokes and vent out after a long day (which is every day). She and I take responsibility for the overflowing coolers. Richa Nassa; the grounded and sensitive one amongst us, she is academically brilliant and will soon be a force to be reckoned with in finance. She sings beautifully and keeps us well fed with a steady supply of food from home. Oh and she can fall asleep in the weirdest of places and postures! I often take a peek into her room just for a laugh. She is a gem of a person to have around.    Which Aditya Birla Group company do I want to work for and why? I would like to work as a human resource manager for UltraTech Cement Limited. For an organization to be India’s largest exporter of cement and manufacturer, the practices and policies formulated for the workforce must be of the highest order. Hence, to work here would be an enriching experience in terms of learning and practical exposure to trends relevant to the industry. The company has gone from strength to strength and embodies cardinal virtues such as 'strength', 'reliability' and 'innovation'. These are values I deeply admire and can personally identify with as well. The fact that Ultratech is going the extra mile to keep our planet green shows its sensitivity towards people at large, and as a human resource manager nothing could be more crucial.
