Human life is full of irony, owing to the uncertainty and unpredictability embedded within human nature. Very often, we have heard in stories that overt appearances prove to be just the reverse. This is perhaps true with my tenure as an intern in HDFC Bank, Makbul Aalam Road, Varanasi.
The day I got the appointment letter, I had mixed feelings. It was a matter of great excitement to me because the city was known to me and people’s approach and behaviour were quite familiar. At the same time, I was a bit scared because this was for the first time I was supposed to do some job where I would have to adjust with my collogues and above all - the
boss. My God, I can simply not explain how frightening this word of four letters appears. To remain in the office from 10 to 6, that too while maintaining silence, discipline and code of conduct was a real challenge for me. Nevertheless, I was committed to complete the internship come what may come.
The very first day of my internship is memorable, as I reached there in a strange environment. Generally, the appearance of a Boss in the mind of every newcomer is of a strict and serious individual, so I also assumed the same. The moment my BM entered and interviewed me, I interacted well and became relaxed. He ordered one of the employees of the bank to assist me and told them to assign a system to me, with proper explanation. For 3 to 4 days, I could not mix up with people there but hardly after 10 to 12 days, I became a favourite of everyone.
As I was the junior most employee, I was treated very well. On the last day of my training, I was given a memorable party by the office staff. The greatest gain as a trainee, I believe, was love and affection from my workplace. As a token of love, they gave me little memorable gifts which will be always with me.
During my internship of 60 days at one of the most reputed banks of India, I learnt a lot. So many times, and especially in Business course studies, teaching is done but it is not made sure whether learning of the students is happening or not. My college does arrange for our placement as trainees in different banks and companies and it is the best part of our curriculum.
Apart from theoretical knowledge through such training programmes, we are exposed to practical aspects too. Banks like HDFC had excellent reputation and a large number of clients, so I took an oath not to disclose any detail of anyone’s account as per code and conduct of the bank.
I started my training along with other employees of the bank, under the Branch Manager. I got a position there like that of regular employees in terms of customer dealings and all other works.
The day I started working there, I did not have in my mind that I would make a career in bank jobs. However, on the last day of my internship, I have got words from my Branch Manager for pre-placement. Undoubtedly, I intend to say here that if you work at your workplace with all passion and devotion, at the end of the day, you will be paid.
I am somebody who believes in action as the greatest solution to all questions.
