A few months ago I was a fresher pursuing MBA and eagerly waiting for the first corporate experience. My summer internship #Octane2018 at Bajaj Auto Ltd was more than what I had imagined. It transformed me into a person entirely, all thanks to the learning and collaborative culture at Bajaj. I was allowed to take decisions independently with a good amount of responsibilities at such an early stage of my career. I was allowed to fail and improve, which has helped me in doing my project in a better way. Managerial capabilities were explored at it's best. Everyone helped and guided me towards my final goal and soon I became a part of the Bajaj family. Special thanks to my mentor and the team members who helped and motivated me throughout the journey.
Preparation Strategy/ Learning from the internship
1. Interview
Read about the company - latest business news, latest industry news,
Recent ad campaigns run by the company. Brush up your basic of the first year - sales and marketing modules. Connect with alums and get to know more about the business and values of the company.
Here the basic idea is to get aligned to the organisation and so you need to talk to as many people as you can.
2. Pre-Internship Days
Before my internship, I had a few days, so I visited different automobile showrooms and got a better idea of the ground level processes and how does a typical sale takes place. I did this in order to have a better understanding of the business processes.
3. Internship
My project was in motorcycle sales unit where I worked with various dealerships. The entire journey had been planned and executed in a systematic manner. Meeting different people helped me in improving my interpersonal skill and most importantly the art of asking the right questions.
Key Learning
1. Understanding the Business
It is very important to understand the business and the problem statement. The entire internship revolved around the problem statement and how it was addressed keeping in mind different factors affecting the same.
2. Keep the Mentor aligned
Having the mentor on board and getting the work reviewed is an important aspect during the internship phase. I got my work reviewed on a weekly basis and that helped me in shaping up my project in a better way.
3. Be Punctual and always keep seeking new learning opportunities.
