The admission process for MBA program of all colleges this year has been quite different with everyone having to switch to online platforms. However, among all the interviews, the one that stands out clearly will be SJMSOM, IIT Bombay. It was around in March first week. The most interesting aspect of this process was that we need to start it with a platform named “GATHER”. It was an attempt by the admission committee at SJMSOM to make the session more interactive despite of having the challenge of an online interview process. A proper demo session was also conducted to ease out the anxiety and nervousness caused due to this unique process. It was definitely interesting to talk or chat to anyone in groups including the seniors on the platform. The platform reminded me of the games like Mario we used to play in our childhood.
Before going onto the details of my interview, the details regarding my profile:
Class 10: 10 CGPA
Class 12: 91 % (Computer Science)
B.Tech Civil Engineer (VNIT, Nagpur): 8.24 CGPA
M.S. Structural Engineering (IIT Madras): 8.83 CGPA
Work experience: 19 months in Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited
It started with 3-panel members. I think one was from my specialization in engineering (Civil Engineering) and the rest two were from SJMSOM. The questions are listed
1. Tell us about yourself.
2. Why MBA after masters as I already had a master’s degree.
I told about my inspiration and need for an MBA from my perspective at this point of time.
3. Then the professor from the Civil Engineering department asked three to four questions regarding my thesis work and about my research papers.
I answered all, but was confused about one which I told that I don’t know exactly. The professor appreciated the straightforward attitude.
4. Then the other panel members asked some current affairs questions.
I told them about the thread I read in a newspaper about farm laws. When asked to summarize, I told them about the comparison of white revolution and green revolution that was given in the newspaper in addition to the usual details.
5. There were a few questions related to my work experience which I answered in detail.
The interview ended with exchanged greetings.
This was all about my interview in brief. I was waitlisted and then got a convert in the waitlist movements. It was really a pleasant experience. After the interview, the most interesting part was I could roam around in the platform with many others and enter in other groups and listen to people. I look forward to an enriching MBA experience at SJMSOM.
