The overall selection and the interview process at IIT Bombay was one of the best managed out of the institutes I had applied for. The selection mail, which arrives close to 15 days prior to the interview, is quite detailed and answers all the queries that an aspirant would have. There is an official PI kit which provides us with enough reading material about the domains a candidate would be interested in. In addition, you are also assigned a “PI buddy” whom you can contact about any additional query about the interviews and gain valuable knowledge from the current students at the institute.
The interview process happens on an interactive platform known as Gather. SJMSOM maintains its status of being ahead of the curve by using a platform such as Gather. It provides you an interactive experience of giving an interview at the institute despite being anywhere around the country. The entire process and its roadmap is very clearly and succinctly explained with the help of a video sent by the admissions team before your interview.
The student coordinators were very helpful along each step of the way and would help you navigate the nervousness of the interview day. Any help or query you have is immediately taken up and resolved by them. The interviews happen according to a sequence and you are escorted by a student to another virtual room where the panelists are present.
The interview panel was very calm and did not put any pressure on me. On an occasion where I was becoming flustered, they told me to relax and take some time to think. Being a fresher, most of my questions were around my final project and acads with a few questions being around my extra-curricular activities. All the questions that the panel asked were things a candidate would be expected to know and my overall experience was very positive.
