The Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA) is a pioneering institution that trains graduates to become rural managers with a deep understanding of society and empathy for mankind. Established in 1979 by Dr. Verghese Kurien, who was popularly known as the Milkman of India, it focuses on imparting quality education to students through its flagship Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM). Since its inception, IRMA has attracted motivated individuals with an enthusiasm to work for rural India. The appeal of this institute lies in the personal fulfilment along with professional growth it promises. Over the years, MBA aspirants have chosen IRMA over other premier B-schools for this very reason. Needless to say, they have been rewarded in their choice. Equipped with managerial know-how and hands-on acquaintance with rural India, IRMA graduates set out every year to work in a plethora of organizations. Their training prepares them to tackle management issues deftly, albeit with a sense of empathy for all stakeholders involved. IRMA trains managers, but also develops leaders. It is evident in the vibrant alumni base of the Institute that’s comprised of leaders in industry, government, education and non-profit organizations across the world. The ever-growing placements portfolio is testament to the way IRMA’s philosophy resonates with both national and international organizations with a deep rural footprint. The selection process at IRMA ensures that both academic proficiency, as well as work experience, are taken into account while choosing the right PGDRM participant. Aspirants with a strong affinity with IRMA’s mission and vision populate the institute by signalling through academic excellence, as well as rich work experience. IRMA continues to be the best choice for candidates who wish to choose a different path than the one that leads to subpar management education elsewhere. IRMA’s selection process for the two-year PGDRM has evolved steadily over the years. IRMA has sought to attract the best talent that the country produces while upholding its diverse and inclusive character. It is reflected in the modified short-listing process that IRMA has adopted for the 2019 intake to the PGDRM. Qualifying Examination Round One: To be considered for admission to the PGDRM programme, an applicant should have appeared for and cleared the CAT (Common Admission Test) 2018 or XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) 2019. Once the scores are received by applicants, IRMA will shortlist candidates based on one of the following two criteria: 1. Merit-based calls: Applicants belonging to General Category who score above 85 percentile in CAT 2018/XAT 2019 are eligible to be shortlisted for IRMASAT and GA & PI at IRMA. 2. Profile-cum-merit based calls: Profile-based calls may be sent to applicants belonging to General Category who score above 80 percentile in CAT 2018/XAT 2019. The key criteria for shortlisting candidates based on profile are: (i) Academic excellence: Graduation from premier universities and colleges; (ii) Work Experience in Social Impact, Community Development, Livelihoods, Policy and Advocacy, Agriculture and Allied sectors; (iii) Graduation in Social sciences, Development studies, Agriculture and allied sciences. Round Two: IRMASAT and GA & PI Shortlisted candidates will be called for selection process at IRMA where they will have to take the IRMA Social Awareness Test 2019 (IRMASAT 2019), Group Activity and Personal Interview. IRMASAT 2019, GA and PI process will be conducted at IRMA. An applicant’s combined score on all three of these tests would determine their admission to the PGDRM.
