With over 900 Million users, WhatsApp is arguably the biggest messaging platform of all times. It was founded in 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum , both former employees of Yahoo which was later acquired by Facebook Inc. on February 19, 2014, for approximately US$ 16 billion.
WhatsApp has definitely become a staple app on everyone's smartphone. Most of us using it would be part of “n” number of groups, some with active conversations and some which survive solely on “Good Morning, Good Evening” messages.
There is no doubt that it is a very good medium to stay connected with people, but are we losing out on connecting with the person next to us?
Has WhatsApp become the new medium to know a person’s state of mind?
We keep changing our profile picture and status on WhatsApp. Does this signify anything? People update their status based on their current state of mind, at times they do it to seek attention or to get noticed.
The status/ display picture people used has become a medium to decipher the frame of mind people are in, what they believe and what they want to communicate to the world.
There might be instances where you think of messaging a person, and would figure out that the person is not in the correct state of mind. Credits to his/her current status which could be either be one of the following:
My silence is just another word for my PAIN; I'm slowly giving up or BEING IGNORED, worst feeling ever.
There is no way you can forget to wish a friend, scroll through your WhatsApp contacts, you would be definitely reminded of the birthdays, for that matter any occasion. You surely would not miss out on wishing anyone on any occasion.
But is this a good substitute to wish someone personally?
Sometimes, people even tend to put up riddles like: A Jewish kid asks his dad for five dollars. His dad responds “four dollars?? What are you going to do with three dollars!?”
What does this signify? To make the reader think could be one of the reasons.
When you get a job or achieve something, shout it to the world by just updating your status. You will find updates such as: I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.
You are in a mood to motivate someone, change your status to: “When I hear someone sigh that life is hard, I am tempted to ask, ‘compared to what?” or “Rise up and attack the day with enthusiasm”.
“Don’t want to be a part of the herd”, update it to: “I m not special, I am just a LIMITED EDITION”.
Want to add a bit off humour, then: “I remixed a remix, it was back to normal, Wow now I’m a graduate”…….”Now thermometer is not the only thing that has degrees without brains”.
What are we upto? It all sounds exciting and nice, but are we missing on connecting to someone who is sitting just next to us.
It is wise to make full use of the technology and explore it to the fullest. Expressing ourselves is very important by not only using emoticons, status and profile pictures but by actually talking to each other, sharing our feelings with other.
In order to connect with millions of people, we should not lose out on connecting to our near and dear ones
There is nothing right or wrong.....but do not get addicted to it.
P.S: I’m gonna change my Status to….. “better you too focus on your Status only”
