Part A: Why Aditya Birla Group Is Big In My Life
Aditya Birla Group (ABG) is so much ingrained in our day to day lives, that it’s hard to not notice them. From the cement (Ultratech) used in constructing my house to my investments in ABSL Mutual Funds to the black carbon used in manufacturing the tyres of my car, ABG plays a role everywhere. So, Let’s just get back in time to where it all started.
When I look back in time, I realize that my first interaction with ABG was way back in 2010 when I got my first mobile number subscribed to the Idea mobile network(now Vodafone Idea). What led to choosing Idea, is its wide-spread presence all over India, and its superior voice quality but little did I know, that ABG recycles 200 tonnes of e-waste annually which makes a win-win situation for both the organisation and their consumers. My next big interaction with ABG was when my sister was born, I visited Pantaloons for the first time to buy a dress for her, which of course she loves a lot but amazed me the most was their amazing collection range. From brands like, Pantaloons which is known for their Inclusiveness and Indian-ness to brands like Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England owned by Madura Fashion and Lifestyle, a division of the ABG — that personify style, attitude, luxury and comfort. Today, all of these brands, have become an integral part of my life.
I had been a part of an NGO providing free education to special-abled children and orphans. ABG’s CSR activities like providing Mid-Day Meals to thousands of schools going children in different states, providing safe drinking water, healthcare support to special-abled children and many more such activities inspire me to do something more for the society, to make it a better place for everybody. ABG gives me a feeling of happiness, confidence and trust and plays a very important and invaluable position in my life.
Part B: How I Overcame Challenges To Achieve My Ambitions In Life So Far?
It’s a known fact that most humans are creatures of habit and thrive on predictable and comfortable actions to minimize stress but I believe that this is something we should try to change. It’s only when we push ourselves a little more, out of our comfort zone it’s then when we start to grow.
Throughout my life, I have faced many challenges, and have also tried to use these challenges as a tool to learn new things. One of the challenges I faced was during my final year of graduation was when I had to prepare simultaneously for my college final exams and for different MBA entrance exams. Like many students out there, I also had a strong aversion from the subject- mathematics. This fear had been inside me since my childhood days and it started affecting my exams. That year, I failed to clear the exams of any top B-schools and I was left with two options either to join any random b-school or drop a year and prepare for another year. I knew that this is the time when I had to get over my fear otherwise, I could never get through it and I would never be able to achieve my goal. So, I decided to drop a year. For the next year, I planned out each and everything that I needed to do. I divided my entire syllabus into smaller manageable parts and maintained a proper schedule for everything. The end result? My performance improved significantly and I even managed to get through some of the top b-schools in India.
This incident of my life taught me a very important lesson. I realised that it’s all about our perception. The moment we start believing ourselves, coupled with sheer determination and will to overcome our fears, we can overcome any kind of challenge in our lives. Challenges are nothing but our fears lying outside our comfort zones. It’s all about when we get ready to face them.
