When I received confirmation for my admission to JBIMS, it was one of the most memorable days of my life. That moment was a dream-come-true moment for me. I was so excited to be a part of one of the most prestigious B-Schools in India.
Right from the day I first set foot on the campus, I realised this campus had a different aura. Having studied at two other colleges in Mumbai and visited various campuses for festivals, I realised JBIMS is unique. You look around and there are just people rushing around trying to make the most of their two-years in college. It was a tough task at first to adapt to this lifestyle after having a relaxed life before joining here. The energy at the campus is infectious. Right from day one, I have been the quality of people, the students, visiting faculty and the permanent faculty has inspired me to constantly challenge myself for good.
Although, everyone would have their own part of college which they think is unique, be it the cats, which are as much a part of this campus as we are, which provide you that essential stress buster in times when you need them or the mysterious bathtub with JBIMS engraved in it right in the centre of the college or the enviable location of the campus. But one thing that struck me from day one was the canteen and the canteen staff. The canteen co-ordinator affectionately referred to as Mohammed Bhai is a pillar of strength and support. Having been in the college for almost 10 years he knows this place in and out. He is guiding stone to all students who find difficulties in crossing the river that is the management program. Always on the move yet having time to talk with all students inspired me to adapt to the fast-paced life as well. I think it would be fair to say that for students who leave their home to join JBIMS, Mohammed Bhai is the second family along with the friends here. The affection, care and guidance at a personal level for all students of the college is a rarity. The care is so deeply etched that we still see college alumni who visit the college and who have been affected in some way by Mohammed Bhai still make it a point to meet him. I think it is the unconditional love for the college and the people associated with it is what drives people like Mohammed Bhai.
Moving on to the Aditya Birla Group, it is one of the biggest conglomerates in India. The diverse business function provides a plethora of opportunities at all levels. The learnings in each of these businesses would be immense with application to all other businesses as well. But to pick one of the business, I would pick Aditya Birla Capital Limited. Reason for this being, my interest in finance as a career and the unending opportunities provided by ABCL in life insurance, asset management, private equity, corporate lending, structured finance, project finance, general insurance broking, wealth management, equity, currency and commodity broking, online personal finance management, housing finance, pension fund management and health insurance business. With so many options available to explore within a business, I would want to kick-start my career with ABCL to develop strong basic learnings at the grass-root level that would help me carve my career at the later stages.
