The lush green playgrounds of NITIE turned into a battlefield for three days as
JOSH, the sporting extravaganza organized along with all flagship events of NITIE amalgamated under the banner name
AVARTAN, concluded on an enthusiastic note on 21
st October.
The event was kicked off on 19
th October by “Campus Run” to capture the high spirits and make way for an amazing week long celebrations. This run was organized to mark 50 glorious years of NITIE and named as “Golden Jubilee Run”. More than 40 high spirited runners participated in the 4.5 kms run over 3 laps. The run was followed by the inauguration ceremony in presence of esteemed guests and all the participants at the NITIE playground.
The Guests for the inauguration ceremony were Ms Mallika Bajaj; an Indian journalist and sportscaster, and Mr. Dwarkanath Sanzgiri; author and freelance writer. Mallika Bajaj, most recently appeared as the youngest ever television host of the Davis Cup competition in India. On the other hand, Mr. Dwarkanath Sanzgiri, has been awarded Maharashtra State Award for Literature, Sahitya Sabgh Outstanding Writer Award for his exceptional works and has written a lot on Cricket and other Sports. After the inauguration ceremony, the arena was all set for the sports enthusiasts to prove their mettle and to come out on top. Around 150 students from various colleges participated in it. The finest brains of our country fought it out hard on the playing field during various events. On an overall basis, K.J. Somaiya won the first place followed by NITIE.
In the individual events, students from NITIE outshined their counterparts in Cricket, Futsal and Table Tennis. In volleyball SJMSOM came out on top. NMIMS and JBIMS won the laurels in Basketball and carom respectively whereas KJ Somaiya became the undisputed champion in tennis and chess.
Throughout the event, the college atmosphere was resonating with sounds of hooting and cheering expressing zeal and vigour of the students. The closing ceremony followed by the prize distribution was graced by the presence of Director Prof (Ms) Karuna Jain and Prof. Ashok Pundir- Dean (Student Affairs and Placements). The next season of JOSH surely has a high benchmark to beat now!
