The first term at a B-school is the most memorable and frenetic time that one has to go through in this two-year transformational journey called MBA. It is the time when everlasting bonds of friendship are built, the time when one realizes that the limits can always be stretched a little bit more. It was one such night, with the deadline of a submission approaching, when my partners in crime and I decided that we needed to pull an ‘all-nighter’ if we were to avoid the wrath of our professor the next day. In all our naivety we also had taken part in one of those corporate competitions that are supposed to enrich your CV.
Also, since my luck that day was excellent, the subject for which the submission had to be done was one where we had to create study groups on our own. To maximize potential, I made a group with my friends. The same turned out to be a huge mistake since the efficiency of the group was abysmal. All of the people in the group were characters, which says something about me as well. Manish, a lanky guy with pretty much no direction in life, was a great storyteller and kept us laughing and away from work. Sangam, a not so lanky guy kept ordering food at regular intervals thus creating further diversions. Anubhav, a grammar Nazi did little to contribute to the submission but had views on how this was wrong, and how that could have been done better. Besides all this, around 4 AM, and about 14 cups of tea later, we finished what needed to be done.
After that came the much-needed break, two of us slept whereas the other two went for a walk around the campus. This was the day I realized how beautiful our campus was. While walking beside the lake, we wished that we would have come here five years later, so that we could have seen it in all its glory. Upon returning, we saw that one of our bags was missing. I was kind of happy that the bag wasn’t mine. My friend was panicking and searched for it for two hours. Mails were sent, all my friends were woken up, and there was hullabaloo all around the campus when a guard came to us with the bag and the knowledge that it was found in the jaws of a dog who took it because of the smell of the food emanating from it. We had quite a laugh. Thereafter, we finished the presentation for the competition, had our breakfast and went to a hearty sleep after just another uneventful day at IIMU.
Aditya Birla Group:
The company I would like to work for is Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. The reason for this is that since my interest lies in marketing and since apparels are primarily a B2C product, the opportunities to showcase my learnings and acumen would be plenty. The number of popular brands the company has would also provide a chance to work with different perspective. The strategy and the work would change according to the fact whether the brand is a market leader or a competitor. The segments in the apparel business also provide an opportunity for challenges on a daily basis.
