KIIT School of Management – better known as KSOM – has launched online admissions for its MBA programme. The MBA institute of the prestigious Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) has an intake of about 240 students for its regular MBA programme.
With a rich pool of 4000 plus alumni and a legacy of 23 years, KSOM is ranked the 3rd best B-school in East India (Careers 360), and ranks 35th in the country as per the NHRDN B-School Survey 2015. It has recently been ranked among the Top 10 B-schools in the country (Outlook) in Infrastructure, because of its 35 acre lush green campus with state-of-the-art facilities.
KSOM has a Teacher: Student ratio of 1:10. About 60% of the faculty members at KSOM are PhDs and 30% are from IIMs and XLRI. A number of faculty members have either been educated or have taught at universities like the University of Massachusetts, University of Wisconsin,
Durham University Business School, University of Portsmouth and the IITians. A noticeable part of the faculty community at KSOM comes from CA, CS, and corporate backgrounds.
In 2015, 357 management graduates (240 in regular MBA, and 117 in dual-degree MBA) passed out with a 100% placement record. The average salary saw a steep increase of 30% from the previous batch. Amongst the 50+ recruiters were Reliance Communications, Aircel, Birlas, TCS, Mahindra Finance, and Mahindra & Mahindra. The intake of mathematics and engineering-oriented students has seen a significant increase in KSOM in recent years. The current batch has students from Delhi, Pune, Karnataka and other states from
far North and South India.
“This success is primarily due to a focus on specialisation; we made a conscious decision to build on a broad-based management education,” says Mr. Anil Bajpayee, Director, KSOM. “KSOM has shifted towards a learning-oriented teaching process involving a lot of non-classroom activities and discussions. Students largely drive the content in the classroom. Our pedagogy today is
aimed to create
CEOs for the Industry, and not Heads of Departments.”
With a strong industry connect and over 50
corporate connection events held annually, KSOM gives its students a look and feel of the
corporate world before they make their foray into the industry. In addition to the three major national conclaves in the areas of Marketing, Finance and HR, KSOM organizes several events in a year, including seminar talks, workshops, guest lectures and industry visits.
The KSOM selection process stresses on communication and the candidate’s ability to understand and synthesize information to produce a possible solution based on the data inputs given. Thus KSOM stresses considerably on GD and PI before offering a seat. This approach seems to have found favor with the recruiters as several of them keep coming back to the campus.
