Indian Institute of Management Kashipur most often known as IIM in the north and famous with hashtags like #redbrickwalls #IIMKsp has been another home for us. A place where we desire to come back again and again.
Location of IIIM Kashipur is such that it is not far from metro city and is near to the lush green mountains of Uttarakhand. Half an hour drive to Ramnagar and Garjiya is a respite on every weekend after the hectic schedule of classes, assignments and projects. Nainital the queen of hills, Almora, Rishikesh, Mussorrie, Ranikhet and countless other places are in the vicinity and treat to the bikers around. A trip to Nepal on bikes is something we all desire and after coming to Kashipur all that is fulfilled.
Campus of 200 acer has facilities which any new college would desire. A view from hostel block to academic block is so mesmerizing that every other day we have a post capturing its beauty. Visible mountains in a clear sky often take the breath away. Gazing the sky at night of stars and constellation in the Amphitheatre brings back the humanity, in this world full of selfishness.
Academics, the most important part of any institute has a diaspora of courses offered and the will to choose subjects as per our choice. New courses such as Sustainable Management and Agriculture Management are making the future leaders ready for making the world a better place. A finance professor as acting dean and operation professor as the member of team inducted by Government of India to implement lean in the country has given us opportunities that we could not believe. Learning from their experience and hearing their stories of work make us more enthusiastic. Thirteen Bloomberg terminals and Bloomberg Market Concept as a part of curriculum is a great opportunity to finance enthusiasts. Case study style of teaching has made us familiar with real issues and how to tackle them when we enter into the corporate world. Cases from B-schools like Harvard, Stanford and ISB are best in class and captures the essence of reality. Initiatives such as mushroom plantation are booming and an Incubation center which will help the budding entrepreneurs to carry forward their ideas.
A student run campus is something which we are proud of. We have more than thirty Committees, Clubs, Cells and Interest-based Clubs. Students are taking care of everything in the college like Infrastructure and IT committee takes care of all the infra issues. Mess committee independently runs the mess, menu changes, logistics, managing staff everything is done by the students. Cultural Committee makes the campus lively all year long, Media and Public Relations Committee market the college well, an Admission Committee to coordinate the admission process smoothly, Corporate Relations Committee to bring various live projects and guest lectures for students to acclimatize with industry. All these are regulated by a student council with elected representatives.
Students come from all parts of the country and the people make sure that they respect all cultures, Cultural Committee also makes sure of this and celebrates festivals of all religion and culture like Handi Phod, Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam, Bihu, Saraswati Puja, Christmas, Mahalaya, Durga Puja, Eid, Lohri etc. All these things combined make our college unique.
Which ABG company would one want to work for and why?
I would like to work with Aditya Birla Retail Limited. Retail is such a sector that with the rapid urbanization in India, it is bound to grow. Being an operations and supply chain enthusiast and having the experience of operations for two years coupled with two months experience in operations with sales during summer internship makes me feel that retail would be an enriching experience for me, where I can use the concepts that I learnt during two years, be it demand to forecast, reorder point, safety stock, marketing strategies, sales and distribution etc. I am looking forward to working in this sector to grow my skills and contribute to organize this sector in India.
