What sets JBIMS apart from other B-schools is that the nuances of business and management is taught by corporate leaders and not only researchers or academicians. Batch of 2019 was one of the fortunate 42 batches at JBIMS which got a chance to learn under Prof. Boman Moradian.
Prof. Boman Moradian, 68 year old young man
(as he calls himself), is popularly known as the God of Operations. But what we take away from his lectures is not only the knowledge of operations but the teachings of life. The way he blends business lessons with life lessons is unparalleled. We, at JBIMS, sit through 8 hours of his appealing lectures in complete awe and admiration.
Amidst his patent words
like “Khatmal engineers”, “Sala bastard”, “Bumboo Theory” , “why don’t you join my competitor and give me competitive advantage” ,“houy houy houy” etc., he could effortlessly inculcate business fundas in “Pappus, Chhapus and Babus” like us.
His business lessons and views about life are engraved in our hearts. Sharing some of his gems:
- Customer is my CEO but I am not slave of customer. Drive your own market.
- Let the Europeans buy the latest technology...we must buy secondhand….CAREFULLY.
- Never automate for automation sake; automate for precision.
- Don’t optimize everything.
- Service is not about nice smiles, good mornings and short skirts! It’s a myth.
- People perform on what is measured and how frequently its measured.
- Become a “Khandani chor” and not a “Chindi chor”…See where the big money lies.
- What gets measured gets analyzed and what gets analyzed gets acted upon.
- It’s very easy for managers to sit in AC offices, wear suits and a wear langot around their neck (Tie!) and tell what is to be done and not to be done. But actual management takes place by visiting sites. It’s called Managing by Walking Around (MBWA) or GOYA - Get off your Ass.
- Management is about minimizing regrets. Like when you are on an electric chair, you choose whether you want to die from AC current or DC current.
And my most favourite is:
- Be original. Don't be a part of the rat race because even if you win in that, you will still be a rat at end of the day.
Which ABG company and why?
If given a chance, I would like to work with Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank Ltd.
Payment banks are the next big thing in the financial services sector. The growth payment banks are showing in India is phenomenal. ABPB is a new age bank which aims at building robust Fintech systems in India. Due to an increasing number of mobile users there is a huge scope for ABPB to grow. It’s a business with huge impact and so I would like to become a part of it.
