Our culture, The Kathor culture is what makes IIM Rohtak unique.
Students at IIM Rohtak are called “Kathors” (Rohtak spelled backwards) which means one who lives a rigid life. A typical day at IIM Rohtak starts around 8 am and ends by 3 -4 am on the other day. Life is challenging and students are confronted with new challenges and opportunities each day.
Classes start at sharp 0845 to 1545 ( 4 classes of 75 minutes each with a break of 20 minutes between each class and a short lunch break in between). Students get up at 8, rush to grab a bite if possible, and mostly reach class by 08:44:59. Biometric attendance ensures that your attendance won't be marked in case you reach late. Most professors do not allow late entry.
It goes like CLASS then a BREAK …. CLASS then a BREAK…. CLASS then a BREAK…. CLASS then a BREAK.
The rule says that if you are in a class, you should be thoroughly prepared with the case, actively participate in class, be attentive and don’t sleep.
Class participation carries weight in our grades. This makes the entire class extremely competitive, and students are always eager to put across their points of view.
Once you are free from classes, new surprises await you.
The rule says that Keep checking your emails and do not miss any deadlines as deadlines are sacrosanct.
By the time you are free from class, most students go to their respective rooms and rest. It is by 1600 that a notification pops up :
Dear students,
You are implied to be on standby for a quiz today at 1700 hours in the respective LR's on one of your courses as all systems ready to go in regards. Ensure your presence for the same and on time sharp.
Best Regards
Most students start preparing as soon as they see a notification. Next 1 hours, students read books and ppts to prepare for the quiz. ( A quiz is an MCQ based test). Students then rush to mess to munch some snacks with tea.
The rule says that if you want to sleep in the night, start preparing by 1800 hours. A typical class requires a minimum of 2 hours to prepare well. One has to read a 20–25 page case for each class that is scheduled on the next day. Also, students have to read the concepts from books and reading materials for the next day class. Also, you will have to prepare case questions along with presentations for the class. It generally stretches till 0200 hours. Students also devote some time for preparing and reading for various case competitions, quizzes and national and global competitions. With 6-8 hours gone, students eventually sleep by 0300 or 0400.
There are bad days too, like club applications, club interviews, inter-section competitions, and so on. Many events are organised and students are the part of each major events like Film Summit, TEDx IIMRohtak, Mini Marathon, Startup Expo, Infusion and many others. Being part of any of these organising team accelerates the entire learning process.
Sundays are just like any other day. It's a lot more fun to be a part of IIM Rohtak.
