With hundreds of hopes and aspiration began our session here at SJMSOM last July. Placed inside IIT Bombay, I thought that SJMSOM could provide a rich blend of management and technological expertise. I had extensive work experience in data and analytics before joining. During our induction week, we were briefed about many aspects such as facilities, curriculum, clubs, and teams etc. Apart from the world-class sports facilities, the official systems and analytics club drew all my intention in the first week itself.

"Continuums" is the rolling lecture series, where the industry stalwarts from various domains of business provide first-hand knowledge about the industry trends. Continuums, in short, is a forum where the industry meets academia. By the third week of July, the interviews for selection of junior members for various continuums in different domains of business were conducted. I still vividly remember how my interviews for Consig (Consulting Club) and Systematics (Systems Club) went. Those interviews formed the bridge between the senior and junior batch at SJMSOM.

Unlike many, I was really fascinated by the prospect of working with fellow management information systems enthusiasts. Management information systems is an enterprise-wide solution which helps the modern-day manager in various forms of decision making. In spite of the former fact, some find it hard to go past the coding image that a systems club in a B-School has. I was one among the few fortunate people who got a chance to work with systematics as a junior member. I really enjoyed all the activities right from selecting the sub-themes of the continuum to organizing all the nitty-gritty of the systematics continuum.

The underlying fact about the technological advancements with best brains of the country in an institution like IIT-B excited my stint as the volunteer for organizing the systematics continuum. Apart from the above-mentioned activities, I helped the club seniors in preparing the “Sentience” the yearly magazine published on the Systematics continuum. The club also helped us with our Summer Internship interview preparation by conducting preparatory sessions. By then I made my mind to be part of the next systematics club of SJMSOM. Though I liked many of the clubs and teams of our college, systems and analytics had always created a sense of belonging in me.

Few other things that fascinated me were the ubiquitous presence of systems and analytical solutions in various walks of business, be it Consulting, Finance, Marketing, and Operations. Every other domain continuums had a rich discussion on how systems and technology had transformed various business processes. All these factors had increased my interests towards systems in general. It gave me an edge over my batchmates while discussing the latest trends in the industry. Big data and unstructured data analytics form my interest areas. Naturally, I chose Systematics as my first preference during the club selections for our batch. Needless to say about the outcome of the interview.
