“Giving is not just about making a donation. It is about making a difference.” -Kathy Calvin, CEO & President of United Nations Foundation We as a part of the IIM Udaipur community believe in the fact that almost all of us are blessed intellectually and financially and try to share them with someone who needs them. The institute strives to create business leaders who would not only make difference in the corporate world but do something to benefit the society as well. 'PRAYATNA', the social responsibility club of Indian Institute of Management Udaipur, strives to sensitize the future business leaders of the institute towards social responsibilities. And they get a huge support from the entire community. Some of the momentous events they organize and makes sure that the community gets an opportunity to be a part of them are: 1. Swar (Audio textbooks for blind school students): A group from IIM Udaipur went by Rajkiya Pragyachakshu Madhyamik Andh Vidyalaya, a school of 94 visually impaired students in Udaipur. Here, children sit attentively for Braille course readings or always rely upon someone else who can read for them. Prayatna has taken up the activity to record sound manuals that assist them to study for exams whenever they want. Students from IIM Udaipur are volunteering for this honorable aim, and record audio books for them. Prayatna wants to grow Swar to other Blind Schools in Rajasthan as well. 2. Teaching Initiative: Prayatna attempted a teaching initiative at Jeevan Jyoti Child Home, situated in the Sukher territory of Udaipur. As a piece of this, our students mentored the students studying in classes IX and X in the Child Home. The occasion saw students from IIM Udaipur turning out in great numbers and coaching the children. 3. Daan Utsav: Daan Utsav is a charity event celebrated all over India and IIM Udaipur opted to celebrate the same in the city. It comprised of many small events. A cloth donation campaign was organized where faculties also took part along with the students. Then there were wish trees installed with wishes of slum kids on them. Students from IIMU voluntarily took up one wish each and fulfilled the wishes of the kids. As said it is not just about donating things it is about spreading happiness. So there was a screening of the movie ‘The Jungle Book’ for the slum kids. And the smile on their faces was priceless. These are just a few initiatives by Prayatna and IIM Udaipur community. There is a long list of other activities taken up by the student community to help the society. There had been instances where students while on their ‘Rural Immersion Program’ had brought a significant difference in the life of people there. The most important thing is the immense support from our Director, Prof. Janat Shah, who encourages us to take such initiative and makes us feel the importance of ‘giving back to the society’. I am grateful to be a part of Prayatna and for the support of the entire IIMU community to make these events successful. Which ABG company I would like to work for? Being interested in sales and marketing, I would like to work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited for that domain. It would help me learn lot of new things and with some brilliant people who are best in the business. Moreover, fashion and retail both excite me a lot and when my personal interest and my professional interest would be involved in the work, I think I can perform much better. I want to work in retail because I like the people aspect of the business. As many departments work closely together of projects, it would help me develop a number of skills.
