Man Cannot Discover New Oceans Unless He Has The Courage To Lose Sight Of The Shore

The title is as apt as my journey has been. My journey started from Patna, the capital of Bihar, the state famous for producing IITans,IAS officers and doctors. Coming from a middle class family,I was not sure about my career till class eleven and decided to pursue a career in engineering as it was the safest option for a middle class guy back home. I started to prepare for engineering enterences and after intense preparation,I cleared AIEEE, which is currently known as JEE main, and was admitted to BIT,Mesra one of the most popular and sought-after institutes of the country. Engineering teaches you many things and one my most crucial takeaway has been "Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. " In the fourth year,I was placed at Cognizant during the campus placement process and after passing out of college,I joined Cognizant, Kolkata as a software engineer. It was an amazing experience there.I made many friends there, some for life, and had truly encouraging and inspiring colleagues. I was doing well there but deep down in my heart,I always wanted to explore new industries, new profiles and understand different mindsets of people. So after three stupendous years in the IT industry,I joined the Indian banking industry as Probationary Officer in Allahabad Bank, the oldest joint stock Public Sector Bank of India which is now amalgamated into Indian Bank.My first posting there was in rural Madhya Pradesh, fondly known as "the heart of India". The career switch was extremely difficult, from having comforts of metro life to facing hardships of village life. But,the learning there has changed my life for better and made me think and react differently. It is always easy to sit in front of the TV and blame the system but when you part of it and you are out there and the lives of people depend upon your actions, you will realise that it is different ball game altogether. After three and half fruitful successful years in the nationalised bank,I wanted to make use of my learning to make a mark on global stage. So I wanted go for an MBA. My opportunity came in form of offer from XLRI – Xavier School of Management, Jamshedpur, one of most reputed institutes of the country to join their one year PGDM programme, previously known as GMP. It was really difficult to convince yourself to leave a secured government job in these desperate and testing Covid'19 times. But somehow I was able to convince myself and then my family members, who have always been highly supportive of me. I always believe that one should always be courageous while making decisions and it is always better to make a move than having regrets twenty years later. "Trust your instincts, and make judgements on what your heart tells you. The heart will not betray you."
