While most of us would admire McMurphy’s fight against the tyrannical Miss Ratched to fly outside the cage leaving footprints on someone life, fact is, most of us are in this cage on our will. Now, there may be a very fine lining between what you may refer to as “free will” and “a subconscious will”. It took long enough for me to realise that I am going against what my subconscious would have wanted. But, then again, the subconscious is a whacky little dude probably high on meth sitting in the closet (It’s tough to hold a grasp on it, isn’t it!).
For all those who would still need a context behind the story I am trying to tell, I am referring to the on-going phase of the lives of applicants awaiting to be in one of the premier institutes of management (PIM) in India through CAT or other exams. Most of us would be fresh out of graduate schools while cards would be equally shuffled towards the “experienced” guys. The adrenaline rush through our bodies right now, of which I am not to unfamiliarised with would take the higher of many of us. And majority of you will triumph it also. But do take a “Kit-Kat” break while you still ponder over which campus to choose from, the one near to your home or the one on top of the hills and so on. Because once you get into this world, I can bet you’ll think whether this was your right choice. And yes, I am not talking about the campus!
In this crucial stage of life where we think we are running out of options of the things that we can do, we blindfold ourselves to the amazing opportunities that lies ahead of us and choose “MBA”. Now, don’t you get the wrong impression that I am against MBA. What I am trying to say is MBA is not your last resort. It is here in my institute that I realized I never really pursued my passions, pursuing which I could have been ounces happier than I am right now(Is it the correct unit of happiness?). And now I am forced to think that the time is too late to maybe open the door, walk outside and try to catch those things I left behind.
Not a lot like others passion, I also realized that I had a passion for mathematics, it being my major in graduation. This happened when my eyes were glowing bright, feeling mesmerized in the world of QAM (Quantitative analysis and management), one of the courses you all will also face. It was then I thought if it was too late for me!
So, in the offset, if any of you still stuck on your windows screen gazing on the waiting lists of various institutes, do spare 5 minutes of your time, close your eyes, take a deep breath and think
thinkthink of something that could be doing rather than burying yourselves into countless heavy books which might or might give any value to you. That you could do something that could finally free you from this cuckoo’s nest.
