Summers of 2017 brought some exciting times for the students of 2018 Batch, MBA (HRD), Delhi School of Economics as they all successfully completed their summer internships at various esteemed organisations. We ask Juhi Jain, one of the students of our MBA (HRD) program from the batch of 2018 about her summer internship experience at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).
From private jet trips to special brunch on private ships, Reliance Summer is a surreal experience. My internship has been a complete departure from regular Human Resources into an entirely different world of Industrial Relations and Site Human Resources. I was posted at the Petrochemicals Manufacturing Division of Reliance Industries Limited in Hazira - located 20 km from Surat, Gujarat.
The journey began on May 29, 2017, from Reliance Corporate Park, Navi Mumbai with an induction into the MT – Intern Programme by Senior Leaders of RIL. I had the privilege of being mentored by Head of the HR Department, HMD, who introduced me to my project, titled 'To develop a comprehensive HR Analytics Framework for Hazira Manufacturing Division in collaboration with the Corporate Analytics Team.'
I approached my project in two parts – the First one was to understand the business and the subject. I did an extensive research on HR Analytics at RIL and industry best practices and simultaneously took multiple courses on Data Analytics.
I was guided at every step of my journey and was a part of meetings with heads of petrochemical plants, visits to the production areas, Plant People Councils, Women Council Meetings. I learned the basic and the complex, about backward integration and ethane carrying ships, had interactions with contract labour workforce and with professionals at corporate headquarters.
Part two consisted of implementing the designed model and metrics. My efforts saw success when the Corporate Analytics Team flew down from Mumbai to hold meetings and workshop on HR Analytics for HMD – Petrochemicals and Polyester Sites.
Reliance Summer is a great learning platform for understanding the ground level work and experiencing the magnanimity.
