MDI Gurgaon Moment
Since the age of 15, I knew I wanted to pursue MBA. I took some major life decisions on the basis of this dream. so naturally, when I got admission in one of the top institutes in the country and I was elated. All my hard work was finally paying off. Since I was born and brought up in my hometown, this was the first time I was going to stay in the hostel. I had so many mixed emotions. I was happy to have finally made it while sad about staying away from my family, excited about this new chapter of my life while scared of what the future holds for me. On the first day after my parents left, a council session was organized. I was expecting it to be a fun, informal, interactive session with some icebreaker sessions for juniors. The session turned out to be the exact opposite. On the very first day, we were given a surprise quiz. This was just the beginning of a roller coaster ride. Next 10 days or the ‘induction’ was held to give us a taste of B-School life in capsule form. But I understand this is the story of every student coming to a B-School. What makes MDI special to me is the senior batch we have. Though initially, it was very difficult to approach the student council because of the image they had created, they are now the sweetest people I know on campus. I won’t go ahead of myself. So on the 9th day of induction, because of the pace at which everything was moving, it became very overwhelming for me. So much so that I submitted an application to the hostel office that I want to go home. After the council session, I went to inform a council member that I won’t be on campus for the weekend. He told me very strictly that we are not allowed to leave the campus during induction. On explaining the situation, he asked me to call him back the next day. On the next day, he asked me to skip my train because a very important session was going to happen. Since I was very inclined towards going home he found some alternate trains which would leave on Saturday. I was clueless as to why he was taking so much trouble of finding alternate trains for me but followed his instructions anyway. In the night we were called for the session. Midway through the session, general secretary of student council entered the room and asked us to form a line since checking of individual rooms was going to happen. When we reached the hostel, some seniors who were standing on the roof threw water on us and suddenly the gates of mess opened. The mess was converted into a dancing area. This was a fresher’s party, just like the quiz: a surprise one. After 10 days of a hectic schedule, this was a much-needed break. It was an amazing party with some unforgettable memories. Suddenly I realized I would have missed this party if that senior wouldn’t have stopped me. He went out of his way to make sure I didn’t miss out on the party. It was supposed to be a surprise party, even a small hint would have ruined the plan. He did it anyway. This was the moment I fell in love with MDI and the people in it! This experience also drew my attention to the fact that it’s important to have a good culture in institute/organization. This creates a sense of belonging to the organization and increases productivity. Hence, I would like to be part of an organization having an amazing work culture like Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail. Being an individual who enjoys diversity in work and value work culture a lot, this place is an obvious choice for me.
