In Today's Chaotic World, Everyone is stressed be it in their personal or professional life. We often encounter situations where our minds are occupied with unnecessary thoughts, Struggling to focus on things at hand. Also, People prepare for Entrance Exams, while working exhaustively for their 9-5 jobs creating an imbalance in their lives. A solution to all these problems can be Meditation. Meditation is a practice that can be used to train our minds towards attention and awareness.
We live in a society where there is a stigma about Meditation, People think Meditation is required when someone is facing any mental disorder. We don’t laugh at people for joining a gym or attending yoga classes, but, we judge them for joining any meditation course. One should perceive this as another exercise to keep oneself mentally healthy.
Here, I would like to share an experience of mine because I have always been very curious about Meditation, and always wondered if it actually works and could help anyone. Before joining IIT Kanpur, I was working in a Production Support Project with 24*7 rotational shifts. It was really tough to adjust in that environment because it disturbed my sleep cycle. I started searching about solutions to this problem and Meditation was one of them so I tried a simple meditation technique from youtube. With the routine practice of it, I felt the change and there was no restlessness and I felt way more energetic.
Since I already had made my mind about leaving the job and pursuing MBA, deep down I was still sceptical if I had made the right decision. One of my friends suggested me a 10-Day Meditation Course to learn more about this technique and fortunately I made the right decision to join it. I have learnt the technique and practised it there in noble silence, without any connection to the outer world. Living close to nature and just spending time with your ownself. Those 10 days were a complete rejuvenating experience. When I got back from there, I was more relaxed, calm and with better clarity of thoughts. It helped me make the right decision and to come out of the dilemma. It is tough to keep practising it daily but once you include this in your schedule, this is assured you will be more focused and calmer.
What Meditation really teaches is to live in the present moment, as most of us are always stuck in regretting past and worrying about the future. Some believe it is a religious Practice but pure form of Meditation has nothing to do with religion. Mental well being is of the same importance as Physical but generally, people tend to ignore it and keep on suffering. Any technique that one finds suitable should adopt it and start practising it daily. It will really bring Balance to one's life. Unnecessary thoughts will fade away and it will reduce stress and anxiety. Closing this note with a quote - "The thing about meditation is: You become more and more you.”
