Part A – Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life. Investing in mutual funds was always puzzling for me. My train of thought would go somewhat like this, “I have money and I have needs. Why am I locking away my money?” This was when my mother decided to introduce me to the world of investments.   I was instantly intrigued and decided to further research on the subject. I spoke to individuals in the industry, I spent a lot of time reading about it online, and I made notes. I would take time out to study various funds; looking for similarities and differences between funds and looking at the risk involved. My association with Aditya Birla Group goes back to the year 2016. Unbeknownst to me, my mother had already invested a sum of money in Aditya Birla Capital; in the “Equity Fund – Growth Direct Plan”. After all the research was done, I decided to get some hands on experience. I started tracking the fund’s performance every week. Gradually, I figured out how to perform other functions like full or partial redemption of funds, calculation of NAV, etc. In 2018, I was permitted to entirely manage my investments. I ventured further into the mutual fund industry by investing in different funds. An actual sense of pride came to me when I redeemed the fund amount in 2019 to pay for a week-long trip to Hyderabad. This showed me how a little monetary investment can reap big benefits in due course of time. While the success or failure of a fund depends on various factors, I believe that my understanding of mutual funds through Aditya Birla Capital’s website and the ease with which I could manage my Equity Fund made it all the more exciting.
Part B – How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far. Having been an introvert all my life, I was extremely hesitant to start a conversation. During my second year of engineering, my friend convinced me to become the event head for air hockey during the college fest. We had decided to make the air hockey table from scratch, instead of renting it out. So about six of us used to get to work every day and this continued for about a month. It was during this time that a couple of core committee members, from the IETE Students’ Forum (ISF) of my college, noticed my work. They approached me, asking whether I would be interested in giving an interview for joining the committee. I was apprehensive but decided to give it a shot. That was the best decision I had taken and I was selected to be a part of the core team. I decided to work on my communication skills as my new post warranted for me to act as a point of contact between ISF and the students of my branch. It was also during this time that I started writing reports for the events that took place under the ISF banner. This meant, that in addition to conversing with my peers, I also had to work with my professors. In addition to this, I also joined the Publicity Team of my college as a volunteer. As volunteers, we had to promote our college fest in other colleges. This rapidly increased my daily interaction with new individuals. I grew in both these teams; becoming the Publicity Coordinator in the Student Council and the Joint Secretary of ISF, in my third year. The increase in the amount of responsibility no longer frightened me. I was thrilled to be part of such teams with a diverse set of people. Gradually, I became the Publicity Head in the Student Council and the Secretary of ISF in my final year of engineering. These three years have made me who I am today. All the skills that I gained through people management and communication ensured my growth as a confident individual.
