There are three days of my life that I will always remember. The first, was way back in 1997 when a little boy, very afraid of the world that was waiting for him, entered into the huge iron gates of his school. The second one was back in 2010 when I stepped into college, grown up and more experienced than the day in 1997 but still afraid of the world. And the third was 24th June, 2018 when I finally stepped in the Kolkata campus of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade to fulfil a dream I had seen long ago, fear still a part of his primary emotions.
A dream that had pushed me to work harder each day for years and yet it seemed like I was standing on the doorstep of another dream. IIFT! The name that every aspirant works for, and prays for, to be a part of. IIFT! The majestic red buildings that spell the power they hold inside, the power that helps you learn about the world, the power that aids you to fly higher than a million other kites in the morning sky.
As you walk past the huge wall of plastered depiction of the world of business and trade, what welcomes you is a rare sight at any business school. A real, existent pond! Yes, the pond is the “centre” of attraction at IIFT, Kolkata and just like the myriad personas you find here, it adds a touch of versatility to the landscape. At night, as the dust settles, the pond encompasses the silence and calm of the night. Stories emerge, they are heard and exchanged and everyone feels a part of the being on the same ship on the journey of life.
On the other hand, the academic block stands proudest amidst others. Being the heart of IIFT, it prepares you for tomorrow with countless group discussions, mock interviews, knowledge transfer sessions, case studies that simulate and help get an MBA candidate get acquainted with the corporate environment right from the confines of the campus. The midnight oil burns quite frequently, sometimes to the extent of welcoming the new day. The day, that brings along promises and a vision to rise further.
And as we retire for the day, the residential hostel turns into a buzzing centre of human activities. From group assignments to cheering your favourite sports teams to lending a helping hand to your buddy in need, the hostel really is a sight of marvel in the campus. IIFT believes in collaboration and showcases it with every step we take.
