The adventure marketplace setup by kayaking enthusiasts and IIM alumni 2 years ago, has significantly changed the adventure scene in India. With the global vacation preferences transitioning from the conventional spots of cities and landmarks to more adventure-oriented experiences, the adventure travel industry is expected to grow at a CAGR of 45% over the next 5 years. The beachside vacation or regular sightseeing holidays are losing its market to adventurous activities such as safaris, rock or mountain climbing, and deep-sea diving that induces a rich thrilling experience. Stepping in to ease the process of finding, booking and living the adventure without compromising on quality, safety and price have put Mojhi as one of the most sought-after adventure marketplaces in India. The journey over the past 2 years have been quite a roller coaster, being completely bootstrapped, Mojhi faced a lot of challenges in developing systems, building the right team and placing itself in a comfortable marketable spot. Co-founder, Greeshmanth says “It is really satisfying to see ourselves grow as a company. We started out in a small room as a team of 4 and today we have grown to a team of 50 in a full-fledged office!”. Carrying on the mission of “making adventure bookings as easy as possible”, Mojhi has now springboarded its operations in a new continent - Africa. The founders say “We chose Africa as our immediate next market since we saw a lot of similarities in what was lacking to India. Additionally, over 80% of the countries in Africa are known for a plethora of adventures they offer. This is a market where a model like Mojhi fits in perfectly and has the potential to make a symbolic impact.”
Initially starting off with just adventures in Tanzania, the marketplace now has its presence in more than 5 African countries including Kenya, South Africa, Uganda, Botswana, Namibia and Rwanda. The gamut of adventures in Africa is very diverse, from game drives (Safaris) and climbing Kilimanjaro to super exciting shark diving, gorilla tracking and whale watching it has something to offer for any kind of adventure seeker. Kasi Viswanath, co-founder of Mojhi says, “Much of the growth we have seen can be attributed to the kind of risks we took. We were constantly trying out different things without knowing if the result would be in our favour.” Implementing the same process of providing users with relevant information about their interested adventure and giving them the freedom to choose an operator has been a win-win situation for users and operators alike.
With the company growing at a very impressive rate, the team at Mojhi is on the lookout for bright and passionate minds to join their team. Be it tech, operations or management, Mojhi is a great place to kickstart an adventurous and benefitting career. Looking at the bigger picture, Mojhi aims to bank on the $8 trillion adventure tourism industry and build an adventure marketplace that houses adventures worldwide!
