I got the opportunity to be associated with DCM Shriram as an HR intern in their summer internship program. I was selected through an interview process where interviewer mostly asked me questions related to current changes in HR and how HR is gaining more importance in the organization nowadays by contributing to the business strategically. Within a day or two, we received our projects and it was quite interesting as I would get to understand various businesses by interacting with various people. We were made explicitly clear on what is expected from us and help will always be provided whenever we got stuck. The live project offered to me was a reflection of their employee-centric value to make technology easier for all employees and thus creating a smooth change management process. The organization support is very good that gave me the opportunity for cross-functional interactions for internal as well as external benchmarking. The working environment surrounded by other peers and mentors gave me constant encouragement and motivation to perform better. The internship program helped me in seeing practical applications of theoretical knowledge that we get to learn in B-schools. It aided me in visualizing my career ahead in the HR field. I also got to learn about the amazing work culture at DCM Shriram from their current employees and also outside consultants who used to share the office with us. DCM Shriram believes a lot in providing an environment where employees are treated like an extended family. Also, as it was mentioned to us on the first day of our induction, we indeed were treated like an employee and not only as interns. We were also included in all celebrations and fun games which were organized for employees. Although all the interns were working at different places, the internship program ‘Abhyudaya’ brought us together and we used to communicate on a regular basis. Thus, we got to learn about various businesses of the organization and just not only about our project. During my internship, I had received constant guidance from my mentor and other senior executives. I got a gist of professional life after interning in the corporate office which will help me in my future career. The suggestions, project outcome and innovative propositions are very well taken and considered by the project team. Also, senior executives are always open to newer ideas and giving timely feedback on our work. Weekly reports, mid-review and final review with the mentor and other senior executives let us maintain our good performance track during these two months. One thing that is appreciably distinguished here is that while we may leave the organization after the internship, the organization shall not leave the valuable projects we propose to them. Hence even after the internship, they maintain constant contact with their interns to give them feedback on how our proposed solutions are bringing effect. I would like to conclude that DCM Shriram is really a good platform that fosters collaborative working and promotes meritocracy. I hope to get the opportunity to continue this relationship further in the future!
