As we all know few journeys are special in life, and Bigbasket experience was one of them. It gave me ample opportunities to learn, to meet with people and plenty of experiences. I met people whom I can bank upon, whom I look to when in need of advice, who have stood by me like a rock and lastly from whom I got to learn many things. The best part of the journey is its advent and the bigbasket will always be a beautiful memory engraved in my heart. The fun with new people along with the struggle to pass is something that makes the journey worthwhile.
Coming to the preparation part for the interviews, I was always interested in knowing about the back end operations of the E-Commerce companies, how the complete supply chain management works, I was always curious to know regarding the backend processes that takes place from the moment a customer places the order till its last mile delivery. Bigbasket gave me the opportunity to enhance my knowledge and be a part of the its system and to contribute towards increasing the efficiency of its distribution centers and hubs operations. During my bigbasket interview, I showed my interest towards knowing these operations. The mantra for cracking a interview is being yourself, having your basics clear and having a clear vision about what you want to do and believe me, this worked for me. The selection process had a group discussion round followed by personal interview. Group discussion round tested the general awareness and personal interview round was more based on my interests and vision.
On the 15th day of April, my journey started with Bigbasket, I had interactions with my mentors who were the National heads of their domains, I was lucky enough to get two mentors, Mr Rohit Panwar, who is the master of operations domain and Mr Kuldeep Bakshi, who is the master of buying and merchandising domain, Since I expressed my interest towards knowing the operations domain in my interview, I was allotted with the project “Efficiency buildup of Distribution Centers and Hub operations”, I was quite excited about the project since this was the thing that I wanted to explore from so long, and yes I got the chance to put my feet into the operations field of bigbasket, Immediately I was tagged with one of the warehouse managers and I started working with the warehouse team. My project was all about operations excellence at Bigbasket, It was something that could add value to the company in terms of increasing the overall process efficiency and reducing the costs incurred.
The objective of the study is to understand the overall operations and building up efficiency of distribution center, hub and last mile delivery operations and cutting down operational costs. This assignment helped bigbasket in the following ways:
- It helps in bringing the down the Distribution Center costs.
- It helps to increase the efficiency of the Distribution Center.
- It helps in increasing the profitability of the business.
The process I followed to achieve the above mentioned target is as follows
- Understanding the warehouse operations.
- To study the various steps of DC operations.
- To analyze each element carefully and find out areas for potential improvement.
- To suggest various ways to improve warehouse efficiency and cut down the costs incurred.
My mentors: I have been very lucky to have people under whose guidance and mentorship I got an opportunity to learn and perform my best. My mentors, Mr Rohit Panwar and Mr Kuldeep Bakshi were very supportive at every step, because of them I got to learn a lot. I have sincerely enjoyed the time that I have spent with my mentors during my internship. Given their very busy schedule, I know that it was not always easy or convenient for them to work with me, and yet they gave so very generously of their time, knowledge, and patience. As a result of their expertise and guidance, I have a much deeper understanding of bigbasket operations. I have learned a great deal from them, and their involvement has helped me in a variety of ways. It was a holistic development opportunity that they provided to me. I am thankful for their commitment and assistance. My gratitude for their contribution to my future success is immeasurable.
