A diversifying factor at JBIMS is that it offers a Master’s in Finance (MSc Finance) course, which is first of its kind program, launched by the former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in order to produce skilled graduates in financial services with an in-depth and current knowledge of the financial world. Located in the business centre of the city of Mumbai offers JBIMS a unique position to be connected with one of the biggest financial markets in the world, and the hum of it can be felt in and around the campus.
The first day in JBIMS, in the month of July or August, starts with an induction programme conducted by the students and faculty. This induction programme is rigorous, extensive, and insightful training period uniquely designed for a fresher to prepare them for the challenges they would face in the coming time during the course and even in the industry.
The first couple of months are nothing but a hustle. A schedule filled with lectures, guest lectures, pre-placement talks, projects, competitions and assignments. The biggest shocker for me was the time-table. Well, because JB doesn’t have one. You can know about lectures just a night prior. This is the perfect time when you can either show or learn time management skills. A lot of companies come for guest lectures and pre-placement talks for the summer internship placements. The current first year batch is placed in some of the biggest names in the industry, acquiring roles in consulting, brokerage, banking and NBFC firms. Again, the placement process would be rigorous; at times the reporting would be as early as 6 am, as the delegates of many companies come early morning. Also, by the end of the first semester, you would get the opportunity to attend various workshops that are industry necessary.
Second half of the MSc - I is quite short as a lot of activities happen in a very short time. The semester includes placement activities, lectures, Prabhav – Financial Conclave and of course the farewell of the seniors. Prabhav, which is the flagship event of MSc Finance, takes place in the month of February, is a platform where CEOs, industry leaders and corporate giants share their ideas, views and current market situations of the country and the world and interact with students. The most important aspect of this experience is that you get to interact with the industry leaders on one-to-one basis on the day of the event. The second semester exam usually begins in the month of March.
Overall, first year would be very eventful and busy. Hustle is the key to survival. Make a very good use of the resources you are provided. Moreover, make sure you befriend our beloved Muhammad Bhai from the canteen as he would make your life easier in the time of hurry or emergency and relax your mood with his friendly, jolly and happy-go-lucky nature. Comprehensively, once you get into Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management studies, all your questions about its number one position in University of Mumbai will be answered. For me it’s the end of the second semester now, half way through the journey and it has been fantastic so far.
