Aditya Birla Group, the third largest private sector conglomerate in India, has been successfully serving in varied business fields like financial services, telecom services, textile, cement, metal etc. for more than 162 years now. Knowingly or unknowingly, Aditya Birla Group has been quite an important part of my life. I remember, from my childhood days, my and my sister’s Diwali shopping, with our mother always used to be at Pantaloons. It was kind of a yearly ritual. Apart from that, Pantaloons was always, the go-to store for our family, for our day to day requirements. I have always depended on brands like Van Heusen, Louis Philippe and Allen Solly for my formal clothes. The major reason behind this, apart from the classy designs and vibrant colour options, was the fact that their quality has been unmatchable even, till date. Unlike some other brands, the colours never fade off after one or two washes and the fabric is of premium quality, which makes them long lasting. And not only in clothing, I believe quality has been one of the unique selling propositions of the Aditya Birla Group, which has led to its exponential growth and success. A few years back I had started investing in mutual funds and Aditya Birla Asset Management Company was one of the few companies which grabbed my attention and as a result I have been investing in its funds since then, through both lumpsum investment as well as Systematic Investment Plan (SIP). Also, I have been a Vodafone network user and the merger of Vodafone and Idea was great news for me, primarily because of the long association with the Aditya Birla Group and its high reputation.
“Challenges make you discover things about yourself that you never really knew.”
- Cicely Tyson
“When we tackle obstacles, we find hidden reserves of courage and resilience we did not know we had. And it is only when we are faced with failure do we realise that these resources were always there within us. We only need to find them and move on with our lives.”
- Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Carrying forward the message provided in the aforementioned words, I would like to start by saying that I believe challenges do bog us down initially, but if we face them and overcome them, the success, we get after that tastes much better. I remember, before my 10
th board exams, I was diagnosed with dengue and even had to be hospitalized when my condition kept on deteriorating. Even after recovering from dengue, I had to regularly go for tests, because my heart and liver had got affected. Due to this, a lot of days were wasted and there was very less time for me before the board exams. I was very upset as I thought there was no chance I would even pass. But somehow I studied and gave the exams and got 78%, which is not at all good, but was much more than what I thought I would get. The two major lessons that I learnt were that one should never give up and that one should always have a positive attitude, whatever may be the situation.
