It is not without reason that NITIE is called the God’s Own campus with the NITIE pond being its crown jewel. NITIE is flanked by the picturesque Powai Lake on one side and the never ending Vihar lake on the other. One might be forgiven for thinking that the campus is a resort masquerading as a b-school as well.
All hostels are beautiful. Some hostels are more beautiful than others.
But then NITIE is not “Only play and no work”. The oft quoted tagline “Mecca of Supply Chain” hasn’t come easily for this b-school set up in 1963 by the Government of India with the help of United Nations Development Programme.
After graduating from VIT University in 2012 in Mechanical with Specialisation in Energy Engineering, I started my short yet colourful career with Cognizant wherein I worked for 8 months post which I joined State Bank of India as a Probationary Officer and rose to the position of Branch Manager in a couple of years. With around four years of work experience in my kitty, I decided to throw myself into the deep end of the pool by pursuing an MBA. Letting go of a job that the society considers ’safe’ was a difficult decision but something that I consciously took. It somehow reminds me of Robert Frost’s quote:
“Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I –
I took the road less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.”
Right from the form filling process, the admissions team of NITIE, Impact, were by our side answering the silliest of our queries with utmost patience. The first week of college was pretty busy with us being allotted various tasks and activities that tested our grey cells encompassing teamwork, creativity, management skills to the fullest. The next week was kind of difficult for us as we had to toil all day long in our academic classes but the fact that NITIE has some of the best professors in India with innovative teaching pedagogy ensured that not a single student skipped the classes. With impending Summer Internship Placements and Mid Term exams round the corner, students have been burning the midnight oil toiling hard to ensure they can live up to NITIE’s glorious performance in the past. An article about my first month at NITIE would be incomplete without adding the fact that our seniors have gone out of their way to help us and ensure we feel at ease at this home away from home. We are already having one of the most amazing times of our life here at NITIE with activities, guest lectures, case studies part of our everyday curriculum keeping boredom at bay.
We have already fastened our seatbelts in this ride of a lifetime and I would like to end with Frost’s words again,
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promised to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep.”
