It is rightly said “Experience is the Best Teacher”. Maha Mandi 2016, the 12th edition of the trademark event of NITIE, Mumbai embodies this spirit to the fullest. The event spearheaded by the Marketing Interest Group (MiG), NITIE is one of its kind socio-marketing initiative wherein students from premier B-schools across Mumbai spend an entire day on the streets of the city, selling products made by the NGOs, which support underprivileged women. The essence of the Maha Mandi learning model is the instantaneous practical application of knowledge at the grass-root level which enables the students to explore the nuances of Selling, Managerial economics, Consumer behaviour and Promotions, in the real world. The event is organized with the help of Navnirmiti, an NGO working towards disseminating education to the underprivileged children and Aftertaste, an NGO working towards skill development of underprivileged women. Through the event, educational toys and home decor items are sold by the students and the proceedings are used by the respective NGOs for betterment of the society. The previous edition of the event, Maha Mandi 2015 achieved sales worth 2.5 lakh with a footfall of over 500 students spanning 23 locations and reaching every nook and corner of Mumbai. Maha Mandi has always been associated with many successful personalities like Mr Rajat Kapur (actor), Mr Dev Bhattacharya (President, CSG, ABG), Mr Shiv Kumar (MD, Nokia) and celebrities like Nandita Das, Yukta Mukhi in the past. This year, Maha Mandi will be graced with the presence of Mr Ashok Jain, Founder CEO, Lifespan Diabetes Clinics. The event has previously been covered by prominent media channels. With more than 650 students participating from across Mumbai, the mega event presents an opportunity for media coverage to successfully spread the noble social message. Maha Mandi’s stupendous success and increasing zeal to contribute to society over the years has encouraged us to set the bar even higher this year with events like: • A flash mob on 4th August, 2016 at R-city, Ghatkopar with almost 300 students participating in it. • A series of mind-riveting online competitions before the main event. • Spread awareness about diabetes, a disease plaguing 1 in 20 people globally.     ------- About the Author: Nikita, is a student of NITIE, Mumbai, PGDIM batch 22, and a Media Relations Cell coordinator.
