Aditya Birla Group products have been an integral part of my life. Be it a phase of struggle or a moment of success, ABG was always a part of it. My maternal grandfather worked for Hindalco and my mother grew up in Renukoot, so I have heard a number of stories about Hindalco culture. Today, being away from home for about 10 years, whenever I see hindalco aluminium foils, it fills me up with nostalgia. I remember how she used to tell some story or the other while packing lunch for tiffin. Then when I moved away from home for the first time for further studies, I got my first phone, that nokia phone with the snake game, and an idea network. Today when I look back, I understand how those daily phone calls to home were my greatest strength. Luckily, I got a chance to live in many states thereafter, from AP, West-Bengal, UP to Maharashtra and I still carry the idea number ported so many times. When I got my first job, I gifted a Peter England shirt to my father and he liked it so much that at every occasion I could see him wearing the same shirt. Well, fathers have a unique way of expressing their love. The brand closest to my heart is Vanheusen. Being not able to perform as per my expectations in CAT, I was going through a tough time. I felt I was so close to my MBA dream and still so far. I didn’t have many calls so it was very crucial for me to give my level best in all the interviews. I still remember the day when I went to buy a blazer for my interviews. The moment I saw myself in black Vanheusen blazer, I felt the positive vibes and my confidence got a boost. On D-day I did well in my GDPI to be finally able to make into one of the prestigious b-schools of India.
I believe the greatest impact I have made on society is through a project, Bihari More Education Project. During my graduation (NIT Durgapur), there was an area nearby, Bihari More and most of the workers in shops were from this area. These families sent their children to work on these shops to earn some extra income. So, we students thought to do something about it. We approached these families and offered to teach these children during weekends. Convincing them was the hardest part. But after constant perseverance, we could get around 20 children to come to our campus on weekends and we took time out of our schedules to teach them. Gladly, many of our students even cleared their 10
th exam with good marks. After this success, number of children coming in increased to around 40 and the number of volunteers increased as well. Our efforts were even recognised by college. In future, I aspire to be a leader who not only creates bigger impacts on the life of people but also emerge as an inspiration for many such small initiatives for the betterment of the society.
