The Boeing Company is an American multinational corporation that designs, manufactures, and sells aeroplanes, rotorcraft, rockets, satellites, telecommunications equipment, and missiles worldwide.

Major Innovation

In 2018, it unveiled Cargo Air Vehicle (CAV), powered by an electric propulsion system which was designed to carry a payload up to 500 pounds (227 kilograms). Since then the innovation has been refined from its initial prototype as an air vehicle. Currently, the vehicle features six dual-rotor systems and 12 propellers. It measures 17.5 feet long (5.33 meters), 20 feet wide (6.1 meters) and 5 feet tall (1.52 meters), and weighs 1,100 pounds (498.95 kilograms).

On 2nd May 2019 Boeing successfully completed the first outdoor flight tests of CAV, in a safe and controlled environment. The electric vertical takeoff and landing (e VTOL) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) successfully took off, hovered, transitioned to forward flight and then landed safely.

Future Scope

With its sustainable approach, Boeing NeXt, which leads the company’s urban air mobility efforts has the aim of using its technological innovation to build a promising future for not only the urban but the rural and on a long run the global mobility. A vision of coexisting ecosystem for autonomous flights and private or piloted transportation alongside simulation innovation. Boeing strives to continue fine-tuning with advanced development of its CAV with focus on forward flights, load testing, and the vehicular performance.

In the future, Boeing has a plan on venturing in passenger and autonomous aeroplanes, and it has already conceptualized a passenger air vehicle (PAV) prototype.
