I have seen quite a few colleges, schools or other educational institutes, they all might be unique in some way or the other and so is the case with Management Development Institute (MDI), the most unique thing which I feel at MDI is the name of the buildings here, the way they are made and statues of some of the great personalities. The name of the buildings here, for example Nalanda, Takshashila, Gurukul etc. on the one hand relate to the historical institutes and on the other develop an overall healthy environment of the college, tells about the vision of the institute and help in shaping the attitude of the students, and the way they are made create mental peace and gives mental strength, which is of utmost importance in a great B-School like this. The statues of some of the great humans India has ever had, for example Mahatma Gandhi, Buddha, Swami Vivekananda etc. signify their values, teachings, hard work, and their struggle, and motivates every one of us to try and inculcate the same attitude in ourselves. The environment created here truly reflects in all the faculty members, staff members, workers and students.
Aditya Birla Group, one of the big giants in Indian companies with operations in 13 sectors and around 35 countries. If I were to work for ABG I would like to be associated with the UltraTech Cement, as it is the largest manufacturer of grey cement, Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) and white cement in India. With several integrated plants, white cement plants, bulk terminals and concrete plants which offer plant HR or IR HR roles, I would like to join the company in plant HR because there are certain advantages and experiences that working in manufacturing plant offers, which cannot be matched by a corporate office. The experience of connecting with people very different from us and the exposure to ground realities, as sitting in a place far removed from the field, it is extremely difficult to understand the consequences of any action and how it affects the dynamics at the ground level. In plant role the consequences are much more obvious and they get immediate feedback which can be used to recognize what influence the step had at ground level. Also it would give me an opportunity to deal with multiple stake holders like government agencies, political leaders, unions, community etc. Thus my experiences at a manufacturing plant will help me develop a holistic HR approach.
