It all started about a year ago but the memories are as fresh and as delicious as a freshly baked cake! I am not a very big nature freak but the campus’s serenity and beauty unleashed the nature frantic in me. I felt like becoming a poet, a singer, join PETA and what not! But this poet in me died an immature death when I first glanced at the time-table. It was unrealistic, and only a super hero could have coped up with it, which in fact I am not! I mean I was a software engineer for heaven’s sake. A little innocent software engineer, if you know what I mean! But following the theory of evolution I soon adapted to the rigor. IIM-Shillong couldn't have treated me better! I would call it a young and enthusiastic place to pursue business studies. I won’t hesitate to confess that it took me a while to blend in with the bunch of students of varied backgrounds starting from literature to law but once I did, I realized the importance of diversity which a B-School maintains. I learnt many things, the major being Class Participation. I figured out that CP was more like marriage, the best ones get taken really fast, the one (person/point) which you were eyeing for a long time will get stolen because there are simply too many stakeholders to please at the same time. IIM-Shillong I must say lived up to the expectations. Everyday there was something new to “learn” (interpret as you may) either from the lecture halls or from peers. Shillong definitely adds that extra flavor to the whole recipe. It is like living in a resort for two years, the MBA is just an add-on. The campus has its own charm! You share laughter and thoughts, you play but not for winning and above all, it adds to your experiences exponentially. I bet every participant who graduates from here would have ‘n’ number of anecdotes to narrate and so do I. Be it the midnight walks, the festival celebrations, the birthday bashes, exam preparations, or interviews one can see the people weaving an intricate story using their many colorful threads. Although located in the North East, the institute has fared well in terms of the industry connect, which is evident from the number of corporate visits the institute attracts. The quality of campus placements and presence of IIM Shillong in almost every national level competition instills in you the confidence to do even better. When I take a look back, I feel satisfied. I do have everything which I expected from a B-School. We all know at the end of the day, practicality is what matters. A person joins a B-School, especially at my experience level, with some clear objectives and goals. And thankfully I feel quite confident and optimistic about achieving mine at IIM-S. The journey so long has been a roller-coaster, and trust me, I absolutely do not want to get off this roller-coaster. There were ups and there were downs but everything associated with these provided me an adrenaline rush to push myself to accomplish a bit more! Mayan Bansal I am currently a First Year PGP student at IIM Shillong. Writing is something very close to me, though I am not a pro, it empowers me to express myself. As they say "A pen is mightier than the sword"
