At some point in everyone’s life, they have faced a challenge, big or small, and have overcome it by working hard. Not all obstacles are bad because one learns a lot about oneself during challenging times. I have faced many challenges but the biggest one by far is overcoming asthma.
I have always been a sickly child. Born underweight, I had tonsillitis by the age of 7 and chronic bronchitis by the age of 10, followed by asthma by the age of 15. This has led me to multiple doctors – allopathy, ayurveda and homeopathy, all three kinds. At one point, I was consuming a very large dosage of inhaler medicine daily. This continued until one day, I decided I’ve had enough. I researched a lot and found a chest physician that claimed to cure an uncurable disease. Under his guidance, I trained my lungs every single day for a year, with yoga, a strict diet and exercise regime and today, I can proudly say that I have been off the inhaler for the last four years.
Today, I am an MBA student with 16 hour days and heavy workloads. Until a year ago, I even had a sales job where I had to be on my feet the entire day as most of my work was physical. And everything I do today, I do with the realization that if I could overcome my illness, I can overcome anything in life.
