The moment you stop accepting challenges, so the moment you stop moving forward. Challenges are an inseparable part of life. The moment one embarks on a journey, challenges are bound to come his way and overcoming them proves the real strength of the person.
My life journey hasn’t been very different. Challenges were to come and they did show up at every major stage of life. Coming from an orthodox nawaab family of Lucknow, there were various rules and regulations attached to how a girl should be raised. Until school things were still under control but once I decided to pursue my MBA, there was no approval from either my grandparents or the extended family which I had. Sending the daughter away from home was something unimaginable. Even though my parents were supportive of my decision yet there was constant pressure from others to undo this decision and take up some course in which I wouldn’t have to leave my own city and my home and can stay at home itself and study. Marriage was another point in their agenda.
For me, it was extremely important that I become independent. It would be only then when I will have the power to support myself or anyone in need around me. It was a nightmare for me to become a burden on someone else.
After this, I decided to myself take up this initiative to talk to my family and explain to them the importance of education and also why the child should have the power to take his own life decisions. Even though they weren’t fully convinced, I decided to go for it anyway. Now, when they see me independent, they do realise that this was important and now even they feel proud of me.
