Not long ago, the sheer opportunity to travel and study abroad was a life-altering and eye-opening experience for most of the students in India. This experience may be less predominant today – not because the students have lost interest in it, but because it has become an integral part of their education. At Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur, one of India’s premier B-school, it is believed that as a manager, it is not only important to know how international business takes place, but also to be connected to the grass-root level of Indian economic landscape-rural India. In order to drive these, the students are exposed to the following programs:

Student Exchange Program (STEP)

IIM Udaipur has agreements to prominent B-schools in Germany and France for its student exchange program. Under this program, a set of students of our PGP students spend their entire 5th trimester in one of the following colleges: The students not only get to study along with international students under reputed professors but also get to experience the culture of that country first-hand. The Exchange Program is essential not only for our students but also for those who visit our campus from these colleges. We get to study with them, know about their country, their culture, their ethics and what not. This symbiotic relationship is very important for the future leaders of the country.

International Business Practice (IBP)

IBP is an elective offered to students in their 5th trimester. The aim of this course is to familiarise students with how business is practiced in the Global Corporates. As a part of this course, the students work on a live project. The students put their entire b-school knowledge to solve the problem. Post their analysis they get to spend two weeks at the client location to get first-hand knowledge of the situation and implement their solution. Under this flagship program, almost 40% of the batch gets to work with prominent organizations and see the impact of their solution. The organizations are based in South-East Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and in Middle-East country of UAE.

Rural Immersion Program

India is predominantly a rural country where the vast majority of its residents are from rural areas. Since Rural India consists of about 70% of the consumers contributing to about half of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of India, it becomes important for the budding managers to know more about this segment of the population. Rural Immersion Program gives us a rich practical exposure to these areas. We get to spend one week in a village – staying with the villagers, knowing the various schemes launched by the government and seeing how effectively they are implemented. Last year the students of IIM Udaipur covered villages in Udaipur, Banswara and Rajasmand districts and did research on topics like financial inclusion, digital inclusion, daily chores of a woman and rural-urban opportunity gap.

ABG company I would love to work for

Having done my graduation in the electronics and telecommunication sector I have always been keen to try and make things convenient by taking them online. Post my graduation, I worked for Accenture Solutions with a client in the insurance domain. This led to my interest in the BFSI sector. At IIM Udaipur I was introduced to Finance and Economics which seemed very interesting to me. During my summer internship, I got the chance to work with RBL Bank in its retail assets division. My work experience in both these organizations has allowed me to not only showcase my knowledge but also learn more about the banking segment. Payments banks are a platform which combines IT, Banking, Finance, and Economics. This is what a dream segment would look like for me. I would love to work for Aditya Birla Payments Bank Limited. I believe my prior work experience in this sector will help me contribute to the company and my keen interest in the same makes me enthusiastic about learning new concepts related to the same. Thank You.
