To do or not to do an MBA is a question which most of us have tried to find the answer to. Doing an MBA is not a small decision to make. A lot of factors are involved be it finances, personal or professional situations. Many of us have faced the dilemma of going for a management degree. Is it even worth it?
If you’re a fresher, you wonder if it’s too early for you, if you have a couple of years of work experience, you’ll wonder if you should leave your job, if you’re experienced over 5 years, you’ll wonder if it’s too late.
There are hundreds of questions going through a person’s mind while deciding on to take up this humungous task in his life. With opinions and advice flowing through your head left, right and centre, you are left even more confused than before.
The term ‘rat-race’ is now instantly associated with MBA. Some advice you against it, while some advice you to go for it. An MBA degree is quite common now. Engineers, commerce as well as arts background students are all part of the MBA world.
When I finally took the decision to go for MBA, I was scared and apprehensive that I am leaving my job for something so uncertain. What if I don’t get a better placement? What if hostel life doesn’t suit me? We all know it will be a struggle. A new struggle. To leave your comfort zones and step into this new war of competition, placements, knowledge and life.
But one thing I was certain for is that I have to go a long way before I can taste success.
The entire process of preparing for entrances, managing work and studies, filling applications, going through the selection process and finally choosing colleges helped me learn a lot. It built up my knowledge about the world and helped me understand myself better. My capacity to handle pressure and multi-task was unaware to me.
An MBA prepares you for the best and worst times of your life. There will certainly be times where you would wish to never have entered this field. But then there will be a lot of times when you will thank god for gaining this experience.
I will just say that do not be afraid of what people say. Every individual doing management has a different purpose at heart. There might be many in one class learning the same course but their goal is different. Their motivation could be either personal or professional.
Be sure of what you want. Once you’ve made the decision of studying management. There is no going back. Take up every opportunity that comes your way and is proud of what you’re doing. Because management is not for the faint-hearted. Be positive in all that you do and absorb all the learning that you will come across in your MBA journey.
This is one course that prepares you for life ahead. So if management is what you want to do, dive in and start swimming!
