When we recall the past, we usually find that it is the simplest things – not the great occasions – that in retrospect give off the greatest glow of happiness.” – Bob Hope. On Saturday, 20th of January, 2019, MBA (IB) and MBA (HRD), Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, invited their esteemed alumni to the Annual Alumni Dinner, ‘Reminiscence’ at Hotel Eros, Nehru Place, New Delhi. The night was brightened by the presence of our distinguished alumni from various batches who got a chance to take a stroll in the lanes of their past memories. The evening began with the lighting ceremony by Dr. Kavita Sharma, Head and Dean, Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics, Dr. Urvashi Sharma, Course Coordinator, MBA (HRD) and Dr Niti Bhasin, Course Coordinator, MBA (IB) along with the conveners of the Alumni Committees of MBA (HRD) and MBA (IB). Dr Kavita Sharma welcomed all the alumni with open arms and talked about how far the Department of Commerce has come in recent times. The evening gained momentum with some mesmerizing musical performances by students showcasing their talent and expressing their love for the alumni. This was followed by a short video created by the students to bring back old memories of the college days of the alumni. Mr Nishith Upadhyaya (MHROD – 2006 Batch) said, “For me, the fondest memory is organising something exactly like this (Alumni Dinner), running around to gather sponsorship for the dinner.” Adding to the excitement of the night were some fun games. The alumni were shown pictures of various things and places in the college and were asked to identify them along with the associated memories those pictures brought. When we asked Mr Arijit Chakraborty (MHROD – 2012 batch) about the place which he misses the most at DSE, he talked about the times he had spent at Ratan Tata Library and JP Tea Stall, especially in the chilly winter mornings. There were also fun group activities involving both the alumni as well as the current students. Current students got to learn a lot from the experiences of the alumni.   Just before the dinner, all the Alumni, who completed 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years as a part of the DSE family, were felicitated. The alumni also shared some interesting stories from their student life as well as appreciated and encouraged the current students for their efforts in keeping the alumni engaged with each other. Mr Shubhankar Datta (MHROD – 2007 batch) said, “The kind of environment that D – School offers, the DU environment, the north campus environment, is something that I definitely miss. The college gave us a pedestal to enable us to reach where we are today and that is what we are most grateful for and will cherish the most about DSE.” Indeed, it was a night to remember for all the members of the MBA (IB) and MBA (HRD), Department of Commerce, Delhi School of Economics family. We wholeheartedly thank all the alumni who took time out of their busy schedules and were able to make it to the event. We also hope that our bond only strengthens further in the future. For where there is unity, there is always victory.
