We had the pleasure to talk with Mr. Subramanyam Vutla, Manager - Strategy at Aditya Birla Group Leadership Program. He cleared his CA finals in 2017. Mr. Vutla, at a young age of 16, founded Crossfire- The Helping Hand, a social organization which focusses on child welfare. Here are a few snippets from the interview with Mr. Vutla -  Interviewer: ABGLP is known to groom individuals into exceptional leaders. How do you weave knowledge transfer from Senior Management to new joiners? Mr. Vutla: In my experience, the ABG Leadership Program places a lot of expectation on the new joiners. It gives you opportunities to experience various leadership roles. This comes up with a lot of expectation and most of the time the new joiners live up-to that expectation. Though we join as MTs (Management Trainees), we are not treated like one. When I began my career, I was working on Mergers and Acquisitions and was never treated as an Intern or an MT. The element of trust was already there and that is very important in knowledge transfer. If you are delivering, they value you. The trust is from their side, the accountability is from our side. That is how knowledge transfer happens. Interviewer: In today's socially conscious environment, employees and customers place a premium on working for and spending their money with businesses that prioritise corporate social responsibility (CSR). How do you think CSR has benefitted ABG as a leader in the industry? Mr. Vutla: I spent several days to spread positivity around a village and I gauged a lot of positivity being around the self-help groups and personally interacting with the people. We experienced a lot of positivity interacting with the local Panchayat Groups, who helped us a lot. Interviewer: How do you make Monday a Funday at ABG? Mr. Vutla: We invite senior strategy heads to include some fun activities along with work. There are several fun activities being carried out in my company. Interviewer: What is ABG doing in terms of diversification and inclusion? Mr. Vutla: I have never seen an incident of exclusion. I see a very fair balance in the sense of inclusion that I have seen through. Interviewer: What is the onboarding process like? Mr. Vutla: We have an elaborate process where all the recruits and leaders come from various functions come together. There’s also an open-door policy with the senior management to enquire about anything.
