Coming from a Computer Science & Engineering background, backed up with 3 years of IT experience & with a keen interest towards Data Science, a technical project would have been an apt beginning to my learning as an MBA graduate. The hard work put in by the Placement Team at IIM Sirmaur, under the continuous support & guidance of our PGP Chairman, Dr. Vaneet Kashyap, and our Director, Prof. (Dr.) Neelu Rohmetra, not just ensured a 100% packed summer report but also made sure that students found themselves working in the areas of their interest. That is how my journey at Ernst & Young began. Analysing potential risks & providing appropriate consultation for projects based on technology, media & telecommunications is what defined my very basic fundamental duty as an intern in the TMT-Risk (Advisory) department at EY. It was a great opportunity for me to work under the guidance of Mr. Jaspreet Singh, Partner/Principal, on the project, “Business Resilience Program”. The project aimed at designing a survey to analyse & ensure business continuity in today’s world where all the industries are looking towards automation as a way of working. The target audiences were our clients & the questionnaire majorly covered issues and solutions for smart cities, chatbots & camera drones. Through this project, I came across several examples of work to substantiate the statement that, “Technology is currently in a state of transformation which will definitely re-shape the way the world runs.” The project began with a simple question, What is our Plan-B? We could relocate people to other locations, or make use of cross-functional team members to ensure business continuity today. But what about tomorrow? What if technology fails? What if the clock just stops? Several potential risks were analysed for various advancements ranging from a Facebook Messenger chat-bot used by NBA to communicate with fans way back in mid-2016 to the risks associated with the latest GPS in the cars to navigate through the smart cities in The USA. Possible solutions were worked upon & the same was provided to identify the most economically effective & plausible answers to the bigger question. The colleagues at EY were very supportive & helpful throughout the entire duration of the internship, giving a feeling of belongingness & a motivation to work with a positive approach at all times. Apart from the project related work, EY also provided an opportunity to learn more through online courses at Udemy. Being able to complete online certifications for Green-Belt & Black-Belt Six Sigma along with the assigned work was very helpful in the development of interest through learning. Overall, it was a beautiful walk interning with EY where people & technology work hand-in-hand to ensure an individual’s growth, eventually leading to the organisation’s growth. EY truly believes in & works toward its motto of “building a better working world”.
