The day I received an email invitation for CAP interview, I knew what I was up for. There were 9 potential colleges to convert for and one to choose. The IIMs which participate in the CAP process is all colleges of equal caliber and possess a similar track record. They came into being 9-10 years ago and they all have shown tremendous progress in a very short span of time. Their placement records, infrastructure, industrial tie-ups: all of the parameters which determine any B-school’s wellbeing are top notch. Therefore for an entrant, to choose one among them is very puzzling. In such tight situations, location plays a crucial role for most of the aspirants and very well becomes single most important criteria for their choice.
After CAP interviews I got an offer of admission for PGP 18-20 from IIM Raipur, IIM Kashipur and IIM Rohtak. Like any other entrant, I was confused and unsure which one to choose. For me, the location was not a factor and neither was track record of all the 3 IIMs as they all were equally good. As any other candidate would do, I was pulling in suggestions and inputs from everywhere possible to help myself arrive at one decisive outcome. After few days of brain storming and calculations, I made up mind for IIM Kashipur and I had my reasons for it.
One of the most important factors which helped in clearing the doubtful clouds over my head was IIM Kashipur’s fully fledged and gorgeous campus. There is no denying that IIM Kashipur’s campus is visually very striking and functionally very effective. The concept of individual flats and common area in each of the flats in hostels is designed to help students gather at one place and put collective efforts towards the goal by engaging in discussions and debates. Group work is indispensable for personal growth of any MBA student and IIM Kashipur provides such an efficient and innovative solution for that! Other than that college is equipped with cutting edge equipment’s to help streamline academic goals. Being an outdoor sports lover, I had everything I could have asked for. A big football and cricket ground, a badminton court, a basketball court, you name it!
The other thing which attracted me towards IIM Kashipur is the vision and goal of the college. IIM Kashipur suffers from location disadvantage compared to other IIMs which are located in big cities but that hasn’t been able to make any dent in the stride the college has taken over the years. The college has excelled in academic performances, the student clubs and committees are at par with clubs and committees of top B-schools or even better, the college has a huge and vibrant alumni network and most importantly a very successful placement record and a zeal to achieve unfathomable heights.
I had no doubt in my mind after I made my decision that the next two year of my life was going to be memorable and a wonderful roller coaster ride.
